This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

My initial reaction to this was really positive but now that I did think about it, it had issues. The story wasn't really that original but the movie was entertaining enough. I really liked the bond those four had and I love that they managed to talk about their issues and resolved them in the end. There were cringy moments and there were moments where I wanted to hit two of the characters (Ryan for not prioritizing herself, Dina for just being ugh) but I really did enjoy some parts. Plus, I found Lisa adorable.

GRADE: BTHE FILM IS RECOMMENDED.JIM'S REVIEW: A best-selling author, a gossip columnist, a sex-starved divorcee, and a loud raucous friend reunite with hopes of rekindling their friendships in the highly successful and profitable Girls Trip. The comedy was critically acclaimed, with talk of possible Oscar nominations, which never materialized (nor should it had). The film provides many laugh-out-loud moments and it is a raunchy time, but hardly original. Too often the movie follows its well worn formula with various results, all of which are predictable fare. Much will depend on your liberal sense of humor due to many of the R-rated situations and dialog. The film is capably directed by Malcolm D. Lee and the screenplay by Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver keeps the comic interludes coming at a fast pace. The obvious plot revolves around a hard-working nurse and mother who does not have much of a social life and an Oprah wannabe who is much too accepting of her philandering husband's escapades with his gorgeous mistress. This irritates their other girlfriends who decide to join forces in an effort of unitarity and sisterhood and bond on a trip to New Orleans where, of course, they meet many studs and have sex along the way.The actress all have their memorable moments. Queen Latifah is the solid dependable friend, Regina King brings the drama, Jada Pinkett Smith morphs from typical wallflower to beautiful butterfly, but it is newcomer Tiffany Haddish who steals the show with her outrageous hi-jinks and line delivery (much as Melissa McCartney did in Bridesmaids...a better film with the same "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" premise.) Girls Trip is just that...fun, nothing more.

Four college friends use the opportunity of one of them being keynote speaker at an event to celebrate successful black women in New Orleans to reconvene the Fluffy Posse and behave badly. Except that leader
Ryan (Regina Hall) has a very successful TV and book brand going on, trading on her close and loving relationship with her husband. Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith) has two young children and has taken on a Mom role towards everyone. Sasha (Queen Latifah) runs a failing gossip blog, and Dina (Tiffany Haddish) - well, who knows what she does, but it doesn't matter, because she has the foulest mouth of the lot. These four college friends use the opportunity of Ryan being keynote speaker at an event to celebrate successful black women in New Orleans as an excuse to reconvene the Fluffy Posse, which used to behave badly at college. But Ryan has to be squeaky clean. And Lisa is very mumsy and hasn't got laid in years. This Women Behaving Badly comedy breaks records for crudeness and bad language: a sequence involving ziplining across a street intersection had my jaw dropping and my eyebrows raising. Having said that, most of the audience were women, and there was a great deal of raucous laughter, and also applause at the speech Ryan gave at the end. It was often funny, and the four principals played it well and looked like they were having a good time. It was also interesting seeing Regina Hall act, having only ever seen her play caricatures in the Scream movies. There was a rather mawkish centre to this - the female equivalent of bros before hos, surround by a tide of fllth in industrial quantities. And when I say quantities... actually, there is minimal nudity here, which always amuses me in American films which are verbally preoccupied with sex. It's amusing but, dear me, it's rude.

I just thought the cast was great, the film was hilarious and fun spirited. If they did a sequel every 10 years - that would be brilliant!
