AutCuddly Great movie! If you want to be entertained and have a few good laughs, see this movie. The music is also very good,
Kodie Bird True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Abegail Noëlle While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
FlashCallahan Ignore the convoluted plot and the history of the narrative, and you have just another haunted house movie where silly young kids who think they are the next big thing get killed off one by one by someone who may be possessed. But add the acting chops of Grillo and Bello, and it takes the film from the mundane into something that is a little bit better than it has the right to be.So to cut a mundane story short, someone believes that a certain house is calling them, so a rag tag team is assembled and plan to do a seance to awake the spirits in the house. There is an element of found footage meeting Rashomon, but that's where the similarities to that film end. We go back and forth to the footage that was filmed, and the interrogation between one of the characters and Bello's Psychologist. And that's it really, we have the obligatory jump scares, people walking around dark corridors looking scared, and an ending that tries to emulate The Usual Suspects.Grillo and Bello are fine making the most of a poor script, but you couldn't care less about the selfish kids who try to summon the spirits. It could have been something quite entertaining, as the story does have potential, but it's executed poorly.
kosmasp Some endings are or rather can be a deal breaker. It seems that this movie has this issue. I only read one comment from a person who seemed to actually like the movie, but only gave it a 5/10 because of the ending. Is it that bad then? I would argue not, quite the opposite, I'd say it does accelerate what we saw before this happening. I'd also argue that it is in the same vain as the rest of it.But I can understand that some people feel cheated or some think it is too on the nose. Depending on your take and how you feel about horror movies, how many you've watched, this will make up your mind about certain things. Things you may see coming and others that you will just think are crazy (and not in a good sense). But we do have a very stellar cast and a very solid story. And it's all told in a good fashion. It's tense, there are shock moments and it keeps going ... until that make or break moment ... does it work for you? That's a tough question to answer ... still doesn't change anything about the quality in the writing in this ...
Nitzan Havoc When I choose new Horror films to watch, I usually rely on IMDb posters and synopsis, followed by the video trailer (and sometimes based on proximity, in the list of "users also liked" found on pages of films I've enjoyed). So it was a very pleasant surprise for me to see the name James Wan (a.k.a the Wan and only!), master artist of modern Horror-Thriller, in the opening credits. With numerous triumphs to his name (Saw, Insidious, Dead Silence, and The Possession for instance), James Wan is to me no less than a brand name, guaranteeing top quality modern Horror mixed with suspense and just the right amount of drama. However, in this case - I must sadly say that the film didn't remotely resemble the level I've learnt to expect from Wan. Probably because he was a producer here, not in charge of story or direction. The first obvious characteristic made known is that it's somewhat of a combination between narration and found footage. A detective reaches a murder scene in a house infamous for similar murders 20 years ago, relating heavily to the occult. As the sole suspect is interrogated, he recaps the occurrences of the past few hours, or at least what he remembers. Simultaneously, the police technicians manage to salvage the footage of the cameras placed in the house, and together both testimonies slowly uncover the story. As a Horror fan who really doesn't like found-footage "mockumentaries" - I must say this combination was very well done!As for the acting, those of us who've seen Eurotrip were in for a nice little Easter egg, with Scott Mechlowicz playing the role of blunt antagonist Brian. After seeing him as the comic romantic, his skills in portraying the condescending patronizing ex-boyfriend were pleasantly surprising, the proof of acting talent! Other than that, I found the entire cast to be very good, with no-one standing out in particular. Now for the lesser parts... For starters, the story followed the all too familiar pattern of "youngsters performing seance, things go wrong, enter possession?". The exposition bringing said youngsters together and the overall conclusion of events were the only things resembling originality, with the conclusion part even less so as it's been done in other films. The build up lasts most of the film and does a good job in being compelling and creating suspense, but leads to an anticlimactic and somewhat disappointing ending. It feels like preparing the audience for a major twist, which turns out to be all too obvious and predictable (whenever the adjectives "anticlimactic", "obvious" and "predictable" are used to describe the twist and ending - disappointment is eminent). It's difficult for me to remain objective when the ending is a let down, but all in all I must say Demonic is quite a fun experience. I believe James Wan had no business participating in a mediocre production, but not all things mediocre are necessarily bad. I enjoyed the film pretty much until the ending, and I guess it's worth trying if you're a fan of this particular sub-genre.
Paul Magne Haakonsen Where to begin? Well, first of all "Demonic" brings absolutely nothing to the horror genre which hasn't already been seen countless times in other similar, and most likely more interesting and entertaining movies. With that in mind, you might think that director Will Canon would be playing it safe and bet on the horses that might actually bring the movie safely to the goal line. But no, that was not the case."Demonic" is every bit as boring and uneventful as it was predictable, generic and cliché-filled. There are no twists or turns along the storyline and you sit in the chair for a very mundane and predictable thrill ride, albeit without the thrills.I actually fell asleep during the course of "Demonic", which is a testament to how boring the movie is. Especially since I watch a lot of questionable movies (B-movies) and such, so I am seasoned and hardened to movies, and it really takes a lot before I get up and turn off a movie, or as in the case of "Demonic" fall asleep while watching a movie. The acting in the movie was adequate, although I can't really bring any particular talent out in the light as being memorable or particularly outstanding. However, the movie was just struck down by the director's hand, the script and a total lack of anything even remotely scary. The storyline was so scripted that the audience is offered nothing enticing or thrilling in any sense. It was all in all just a long, very long, run on a fully automated track. If you enjoy horror movies, then there are far better choices available on the market. And I would suggest that you give "Demonic" a wide berth. It just simply isn't worth the time or effort.
