Skunkyrate Gripping story with well-crafted characters
Clarissa Mora The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
thesar-2 Hell, even The Room was more enjoyable. When you setup a far-fetched scenario and still want it grounded in somewhat reality, you really gotta sell it. Such as showing more than one scene of the victim acting normal (i.e. trying to escape) and more than one scene of the victim attempting to take on what's holding him/her back and failing. This film failed at these two simple rules and because of this, failed to really capture me into this realm.Worse, there's the ending...sorry, no spoilers, but *that ending.* I think you'll agree. The basic foundation is some sick, twisted cab driver seeks out female targets in order to bring them back to his isolated home and, yeah, kill them. But, one day, he gets more than he bargains for when one female victim comes with her son. Not wanting to kill said boy, the boy becomes the man's hostage for years and years. Supposedly, we're supposed to believe he attempts to escape once. ONCE. And never tried to stop the man when the man continued to bring home women to kill. And he claims he didn't understand or like that task. While the movie's competently shot and well-acted by the females and lead psycho, Vincent D'Onofrio, the suspension of disbelief is far too great and the ending twists are laughable at best. Wish I could recommend this, but then again, wish the movie led somewhere more promising and satisfying.Just watch 2015's Room. Sooo much a better film!***Final thoughts: Yes, 2015's Room came out after this, so maybe those filmmakers learned the lesson from this mostly "okay" movie.
cmovies-99674 PROS: I don't even know where to begin. To start, the development of terror is just so outstanding words can't describe it. You get sucked in a little bit with everything that happens. Every scene further adds to the anxiety that the movie is predisposed to give you anyway. Then to top it all off, you get an amazing climax. A truly, horrifying finish to add on to an already gruesome film. The thing that I felt helped the movie the most would be the acting. The directing was good, the script was good, but most importantly the acting was good. Each actor really became the character. This gave that extra bit of darkness that really was the embodiment the film. Another thing that was breathtaking was the ending. For some reason I assumed that the resolution would be stereotypical and cliché, but it was anything but that. The reason this film is a true psychological horror and not a slasher horror is because of the ending. The shock and true unnerving quality the ending possessed is what made this film a 5/5 for me.CONS:www.chorror.com
Geenahgee04 Vincent D'Onofrio, is a wonderful, actor. Why the heck didn't he get an Oscar, for this role. More than half of people was pleased, with this film. The other few I don't know what they were watching. This movie does not fit into the horror genre. What this movie is, is a Psychological Thriller/ Psychopath, serial killer genre. There isn't much gore. Just blood curling screams. You don't see what is happening. You have to guess. Which is heart pounding enough. This movie puts you into psychological trance. The end is a bit of a twist. Keep your ears open as much as your eyes. Once again Vincent D'Onofrio, out shined himself. It's worth the watch.
Lele As an horror movie, I did not find it that scary or that gory. To me it is a heavily dark humorous view of father-son relationship. Many of Bob's line are similar to what fathers usually say to their sons, including "you have disappointed me" or "it's important to have notions or people will walk over you". Even the surrealistic process to try and teach Rabbit his own "profession", the graduation gift and so on. It is not a comedy, but it made me laugh.Besides this Bob's character cannot have been a serial killer for more than ten years. Actual SKs 'want' to be caught. Actual SK don't kill on demand. One of the best line is: "Did your father teach you things? Or was he just f****d up?"
