Tied for the best movie I have ever seen

If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

I have to say I am kinda glad that Beate Uhse was already dead for 10 years when this movie about her life and her struggles was made. It does not do her justice in terms of what she achieved and what she stands for to this date. Everybody knows the name, even today almost 100 years after she was born. It is also sad to see what Franka Potente has turned into by 2011 after she was one of Germany's finest and most lauded actresses several years earlier. So I guess I support her decision to try her lock on an international level as these last 5 years have certainly been better than this piece of garbage/mediocrity here. She is so above that level. The major problem here is definitely the script. I cannot even blame director Hansjörg Thurn. The only one to blame here is Timo Berndt and looking at his previous projects ("Alarm for Cobra 11" a.o.), I cannot even be surprised how this one here turned out. His attempts at making a film about a strong female character, the way he tried to bring in controversy and the fact that he totally failed in making characters that are not completely good or bad look so clumsy. It shows that he is very very clumsy. My 4/10 is still pretty generous, the script is definitely only a */*****, but Sylvester Groth managed to save the film on some occasions and Potente also wasn't a complete disaster. This material probably not even Daniel day-Lewis could have gotten to work. I cannot really pick one scene that was the absolute lowpoint here, there were many that are contenders in this sad regard. You will know what I mean when you see then. This was weak, even for a German television film with the low level television is right now. Perfect watch for everybody who enjoys the likes of "Mitten im Leben", but not for anybody who wants quality entertainment. Stay far far away.
