Reviews
GurlyIamBeach Instant Favorite.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Hattie I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Jemima It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
John Scott For lovers of Bach's music you'll find little to fault with this documentary. However for the casual viewer the film comes across as a little too enthusiastic and one sided. The documentary is essentially a 2 hour compendium of (largely north American) talking heads gushing uncritical praise on Bach and his works, interspersed with pieces of Bach's music performed on a variety of instruments. The documentary assumes the viewer already knows Bach's biography (this is certainly not a history lesson) and there is little context or comparison to other composers of his generation.Non-Bach lovers may come away from this film feeling a little unfulfilled, you have been warned.
