I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Saying that in the most recent years something terribly wrong has happened with Seagal's shape is as innovative as stating that the amount of the unemployment allowance is like a gloomy joke. Famous in the days of yore actor in his fattest aptly named years was gleaming with his brawn and gelled hair, combed in a ponytail, sprightly breaking enemies' bones in a very spectacular way, at least for the audience. What's left from the aforesaid magic of Steven is merely a foggy recollection and the man who had significant contribution in propagating Aikido all over the world is currently nothing but a (considerably huge) shell of himself in terms of the appearance as well as regarding his cinematic achievements. The flick called "A Dangerous Man" is a perfect fit in the trend sustained by the most current pictures - lowbrow action cinema, filmed with a strictly limited budget (partly from the pocket of very Steven himself), with deplorable montage, artificially accelerated motions, the excessive presence of a double and run-of-the-mill scenario.Obviously, Steven once again repeats his role of a killing machine able to break one's neck with the slightest move of his finger, the character so typical of his films. Some Shane Daniels (Seagal) is sentenced to prison for a murder he didn't commit. After 6 years of doing his time in the penitentiary, new evidence is taken into account and Daniels is made up for his hardship with a sum of $300k. Unfortunately, Shane's wife didn't manage to be faithful to her beloved for so long; therefore Seagal, pardon, Daniels, is all on his ownsome. Less than 24h without the handcuffs pass and he is once again mingled in a crime, witnessing a murder committed by two Chinese. The murderers attempt to finish off both the inconvenient witness and Sergey, who was also present at the crime scene. After a short shootout, Daniels saves the boy and finds out that there is a kidnapped girl in the trunk of Chinese's car. All three of them decide to combine their strength to face both the Chinese mob and the corrupt police officers collaborating with the latter ones...Surprisingly, the sheer beginning of "A Dangerous Man" gives hope for a movie somewhat better than the previous disasters with Seagal. The fighting scene on a parking lot is filmed without the annoying acceleration of movements, whose aim is to conceal the deficiencies; moreover, hand motion of 'stoutly built' Seagal is clearly visible (albeit reminding of Aussie salute performed to get rid of an obtrusive tsetse fly...).Unfortunately, the further you go, the worse. That the script is filled with well-worn motives would still be acceptable; cheesy lines could also be overlooked. However, the whole movie is simply destroyed by a pile of pathetic C-class-like ideas, employed together with tragic Seagal's performance and extremely bad execution of bare-hands fighting scenes. How could anyone take seriously Steven who is almost stammering every line like he was reading them from the stickers glued to the table? How could anyone not be about to laugh when god-like Seagal is having a sexual intercourse with his naked wife wearing leather jacket and grinning like an innocent chubby boy? The schemes mentioned above comprise not solely the loutish scenario with easily predictable plot twists, filled with tacky dialogues, but also the very sequences of melee (which by the way are in the minority in comparison with the shootout scenes, the latter ones not requiring too much mobility). Relentlessly, the audience watches the sped up montage; moreover, every malefactor dutifully destroys at least one furniture/object/window glass with his bulk Isn't this peculiar predilection of Seagal's characters towards smashing the room equipment too close to some kind of a deviation? One could assume that the executive producers of A Dangerous Man" have an agreement with IKEA regarding the supply of devastated furniture...Other clichés, so typical of other flicks from the same genre as A Dangerous Man", can't be overlooked as well due to the simple fact that they are ladled in bluntly lackluster manner. The sequence when Seagal triggers off a bomb, walking as steady as a rock towards the camera with the explosion behind his back is just one of a few examples. An obligatory mug (even more than one) thrown through the window and smashing the glass to the shatters is yet another one.Bare-hands fighting sequences suffer from bad montage execution, they usually present only sheer hands (seldom legs) of the main protagonist. Rarely Seagal bends one of the unfortunate fellow with a wrist lock, in the majority of the scenes however he simply restrains himself to throwing people at tables/chairs/TVs or other equipment from the IKEA offer.Albeit I've poured some smears at present Seagal, I'm far from condemning his overall achievements. Steven from the era of Above the Law" or Out for Justice" is the one we would like to see on a TV screen. Not the obese, chubby bear-like character, relentlessly wearing the same coat/jacket (horror of horrors, declining to take them off even in the bedroom scenes) and definitely not Steven overusing stunts. The only hope lies in the return of Seagal to his greatest shape, dropping the doubles playing the majority of scenes instead of himself and cooperation with some decent director who avoids cheap flicks, having solid cinema on his account. To conclude: A Dangerous Man" is not even watchable as an unintentional parody of the whole genre. It's too rotten, excessively packed up with clichés reminding of straight-to-DVD" films (which, by the way, the reviewed movie is) and simply boring as hell, lacking decent action/shooting/car-chase sequences. The worst of Seagal's – avoid at all cost. The telegraphic shortcut: Seagal combating his excessive weight rather than the enemies; pathetically accelerated takes in few action scenes make the reception of the flick even worse; poor script together with Seagal's bad performance greatly contribute to the picture of a cinematic disaster.

following in line with his last few movies, a dangerous man has seagal doing what he does best, killing people with such ease and brutalness, that it is literally a joy to watch, the story line is simple, the action fast, brutal and 100 percent seagal, now sure if you don't like seagal, of course you ain't gonna like this movie, but seagal fans should love it, because it has more fighting, than all his movies since 'fire down below and seagal has bought back his bad ass attitude from the early 90's, no the movie isn't a masterpiece, but it is a solid action movie that delivers everything you'd expect of the genre and the star, i recommend

A Dangerous Man starts as ex Special Forces war hero Shane Daniels (Steven Seagal) chases off a man attacking his wife Holly (Aidan Dee) who is later found brutally murdered. Shane is convicted of the man's murder & spends six years in an Arizona state prison before being cleared of all charges & released due to new DNA evidence, his first night as a free man & Shane heads straight to a shop to buy some Bourbon but is confronted by muggers whom Shane beats up, leave for dead & steal their car. While drinking his Bourbon by himself Shane witnesses a local cop being shot dead by Chinese gangsters, Shane gets involved & after killing one of the Chinese discovers a bag full of money & a drugged woman named Tia (Marliana Mah) in the back of their car. Shane decides to take both & leaves the scene with Russian car thief Sergey (Jesse Hutch) who also witnessed the killing, Shane agrees to help the Chinese girl Tia who is wanted by Chinese gangsters & the local corrupt police who also want their money back...Written & directed by Keoni Waxman this is the second Steven Seagal film I have seen in the past couple of days after The Keeper (2009) which was also written & directed by Waxman, for some reason quite a few Seagal films are playing on telly over here now & next up for me watch is Driven to Kill (2009) but that's for another time. Anyway, I quite liked The Keeper, it wasn't brilliant but as far as action thrillers go it wasn't half bad & I suppose I wanted too much to expect two straight to video Seagal films to be of decent quality as A Dangerous Man is definitely a notch below The Keeper but having said that still better than some of Seagal's other straight to video crap he has churned out over the past decade. The script has a reasonable story but doesn't do much with it, for instance it's never really explained why Seagal doesn't step in sooner to save the cops life or even why he bothers to get involved at all, the story behind Tia's uncle is unclear as it's originally said she wants help to smuggle him into the US but by the time the film ends he is in the US but who got him there? If it was the bad guy's why not just take him hostage as soon as they reached the US? Why all the shoot-outs & runaround? It never really gels or makes perfect sense, your never really fully behind the character's either with the relationship between Daniels & Tia feeling very awkward with virtually no chemistry there at all although the obvious age difference along with Seagal's mumbling & obvious lack of acting ability doesn't help matters. The action could have been better too, there are lots of bland shoot-outs, in fact the last forty minutes of the film are just two long shoot-outs. The Chinese guy's attack the Russians & then soon after the Russians attack the Chinese as lots of bullets are fired & lots of people are shot but it's pretty dull stuff with no real energy. Seagal's fight scenes are a mixed bag, I am sure he's using a double here as a lot of the fights are filmed in a way not to show Seagal's face like from the neck down or behind Seagal's character or an object like a shelf obscuring his face. The beginning of the film also features Seagal really hurt two muggers in a way you wouldn't expect from a hero, he mutilates ones face with the barrel of a gun & shoots the other (despite it being his first day out of prison) before stealing their car & blowing it up. There are some really sexy Asian girls featured in this which is worth a mention. Also worth a mention are Waxman's annoying style, you know the sort of things like fast editing, slow motion, silly colours, odd sound effects & misplaced music. With a supposed budget of about $6,500,000 this was filmed in Canada & has reasonable production values, certainly as good as can be expected for this type of film. The acting is alright, obviously Seagal is poor as usual & just mumbles his way through his role & the lack of any chemistry between himself & Marlaina Mah hurts the film.A Dangerous Man isn't that great, it has a decent story that somehow ends up being rather muddled & even though there's plenty of shoot-outs the action is formulaic & forgettable. Not as bad as some of Seagal's recent output but hardly amongst his best.

It all starts out with Steven beating the crap out of a guy in the first scene of the movie, inflicting a devastating brutal beat down in order to apparently, protect his wife. And now he is wrongfully accused, and sent in prison for a good 6 years... until they finally find out that the DNA to the killer and his wrongfully accused for victim didn't match. Tough luck Steven, 6 years is a long time, especially when after the 6th you receive a letter from your wife that she has to move on, just before your release! What a tease! You definitely convinced me when your portrayed your attachment to her with gratuitous scenes of awesome bare-naked breasts! Now you've lost everything, and on top of that, you decline the courts offer for tons of money to get you back on your feet (That bag full of dough you just so happen to find later, will do the job, besides, it's a faster, more efficient way of piling it up, and it involves killing lots of bad Asian American's to get it). Anyway, Steven doesn't need the court's help, he's an ex special ops. Military agent, and he can do things on his own. Nothing spells tension like the past 6 years of your life spent wrongfully accused in a prison. It's a good thing that on the way to a convenience store, Steven gets to liberate some of his anger on unsuspecting gangsters, by turning one of the two's faces into "pâté-chinois".Things pick up quickly as Steven is caught in a pit stop turmoil, with angry Asian dudes who drive around with lots of money and a chick in their trunk. Thing's also go from bad to a lot better, when Steven absolutely obliterates a Chinese guy, and run's of with the girl, the money, and this Sergei fellow, who apparently has no emotions, because his friend just got raped with bullets and he never seemed to notice or care. Oh! and he just so apparently happens to be a big Russian mafia boss's son (Didn't look Russian to me).So Steven has a meet and greet with the Russian mob boss, and in a minutes time (after Steven has a flawless victory over his Russian barman buddy), become brothers, to the dept he owes in exchange for the life of his son. Steven has the option to move out of the country, but chooses the path of "I never leave a fight unfinished ", and quickly ops to recapture the girl's uncle being smuggled into the country (Surprise!). I can understand him though, the girl and he, seem to harness such a chemistry together... she could even guess Steven's name ( Shane ) before he even told her (motel scene). What follows is a brilliant brew of Russian versus Asian American violence, with a few cops involved, who fancy being openly crooked, cooperating with gangsters, all the while running around in a police cruiser and in uniforms (Makes sense to me). Steven's rampage leaves no thirst unquenched, involving a few Steven Seagal Special Moves (SSSM), such as, spawning a rope out of nowhere to defend himself from a sharp knifed attacker, using chop sticks to defeat a Chinese opponent (I always knew those things we're better at killing then eating) and of course, last but not least, beating an opponent to near death, but finishing him off by blowing up an entire building, instead of putting a bullet into his unconscious body.Immediately following the glorious final battle(in which Steven is left completely unscathed yet again ),which included no less then : 13 times "The Face", 10 broken bones, 12 brutal beat downs and 15 kills, the movie wastes no time to roll credits, in fact, it takes exactly 51 second's for the movie to end after the fighting is over. We are treated to a sight of a nice resort in the mountains, to which the scenery looks to be cleverly taken out of a post card, and to Steven in a kick ass looking suit.Amen.Bless you Steven Seagal, may god speed you on your way to your next movie, for I will be waiting.Emmanuel
