Scanialara You won't be disappointed!
Matcollis This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.
Gurlyndrobb While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Jemima It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
v-tewatia5 I saw this movie today on t.v and it was a piece of crap. The title of the movie describes everything n there is nothing worth watching.Acting of Priyanka,Irrfan was outstanding but the movie is senseless.I personal feel that except 2 husbands(Neil, naseeruddin shah) none of them deserved to die.Annu Kapoor was hilarious. It was not like Vishal Bhardwaj previous films,it lacked substance and a good script.I started feeling sleepy after half the film but continued watching it because of critics reviews, hoping for something. It is not a very good entertainer and will not be liked by those who love to see high paced action or a mystery movie with superb climax or a romantic film--Avoid it if you belong to this category.
Darren hawkins I just wanted to add my 10 cents worth of commentary about this film.June 2011, I was lucky enough to be in Shanghai, China, to attend the Shanghai International Film Festival. I was there as my debut feature film was accepted into the festival and I was invited (as director) to attend the festival.Well, enough of my bragging and name dropping as to HOW and WHY I was in Shanghai to see this film, onto my thoughts!Of the many tickets I was given to attend films at the festival, the plot summary of this film caught my eye and I knew something of its director. There were many "A List Hollywood movies" I could have seen, but I chose this one.I was NOT disappointed in my choice !While most people may think of Bollywood films as being colourful, sometimes humorous, at times a little cheesy, with a little too many "dance sequences" for their like, THIS FILM IS NOT ONE OF THEM !!!From the opening scene (it's quite confrontational from a visual and psychological standpoint .... I won't reveal WHAT you see, but let me say that Bhardwaj makes a bold statement with his on screen vision VERY quickly!!!), I knew this was going to NOT be your "stereotype" Bollywood fair .... and thank goodness for that!! Not that I have a problem with the "stereotype", I do enjoy them, "Dhoom 1 & 2" being favourites of mine, but I was not after that kind of film! The directing, cinematography, set design, costuming, story, sound design, location choices, editing, casting and acting ALL wove together to deliver a REAL cinematic experience.I found it difficult to find a "weak link" to be honest!I can ONLY say, that if you get the chance to see this on the "big screen", PLEASE do so (ok also see my movies too please!! .... they aren't YET at the same lush quality, but heck, not too bad considering the budget I have been able to work with!!!).If you can only see this on DVD or blu-ray, then, pick a night in which you can brew some coffee (or whatever drink takes your fancy), take the phone off the hook, sit back, relax and bathe in this movie.
rsa5387 Saat Khoon Maaf is a daringly different film that falters under the weight of its own ambition. Bhardawaj has taken great care in crafting the aesthetics; every frame is splendid, from staging to cinematography and costume/sound design. From the panoramic vistas of Pondicherry, Kashmir, and Moscow, to the hushed, dark tones used for the grittier portions of the tale, the film is dripping with ambiance and style. In Bhardawaj style, this is a dark, brooding work in lieu of other genre favorites such as Sympathy for Lady Vengeance & Kill Bill. Though not as hyper-stylized as those films, 7 Khoon Maaf has a far more engaging, drawn out plot that is involving and emotionally fulfilling, yet ultimately disappointing due to a few of the stories being half-baked. At times, it seems that Susanna's (Priyanka Chopra) faults with each husband she eventually murders is of her own vocation, stemming from rushing into one affair after another. For the majority of the film, however, the outcome of these relationships is rightfully on the masquerading male, each with a fatal flaw that is hidden until the knot is tied. The ultimate problem with the narrative is not with the flaws, but the majority of her husbands are not fully developed, for the most part their personalities and actions seem archetypal and single-minded. To Bhardawaj's credit, the majority of the supporting characters are three-dimensional, especially Susanna's adopted son Arun & her servants. Moreover, Susanna's emotional plight resonates and the conclusion is affecting and satisfying. Priyanka Chopra owns every frame of the film. Susanna's character is one that is rarely seen in Hindi cinema, her ability to display the complexity and various shades of Susanna across a period of sixty-years cements her position as an actress of great depth. While this is by far her best role, this is not Bhardawaj's most accomplished film. As daring and innovative as the theme and treatment of the film are, the lack of depth afforded to Susanna's husbands ultimately affects the films narrative and emotional quotient. Even so, the screenplay is engaging, the film looks decadent, and Ms. Chopra's brilliant performance is worth a watch and a few accolades.
MovieInspector Vishal Bhardwaj didn't impress me that much with Omkara, but his last two films (Kaminey and this) have really impressed me.The story is based on the Ruskin Bond novel 'Susanna's seven husbands', about a woman who gets married 7 times in search of true love. The performance by Priyanka is out of this world. Out of the seven husbands, the most impressive ones are John Abraham, Irfan Khan and Naseerudin Shah. The screenplay is brilliant, and the cinematography is good. Characterisation is brilliant too. The direction is simply superb; Vishal Bhardwaj almost takes things to the next level with this. The music of the film is quite appropriate. I wouldn't say it is chart-buster quality, but it certainly adds to the film. Verdict: recommend this to serious film fans. It's just a wonderful movie. 9/10.
