2freensel I saw this movie before reading any reviews, and I thought it was very funny. I was very surprised to see the overwhelmingly negative reviews this film received from critics.

Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.

Seth_Rogue_One Gloomy zombie flick that fails to excite or entertain on any level.Even the kills are poorly orchestrated, and it doesn't help that a lot of them are shown in slow motion, which in the case of for instance the series THE WALKING DEAD that could add a bit more dramatic flare to the scene but here it does the exact opposite, it just highlights the fact that it's poorly done instead.I like Brendan Fletcher and Katherine Isabelle but they can't save this dreck, not that they try all that much (Brendan in particular appears to be very little interested in being in the movie).There's really not a whole lot to say about the movie they spend most time in the woods dodging zombies.If that sounds like your cup of tea then by all means take a sip, but just know that it's the cheap stuff with a lot of grainy tea-particles floating about.

Leofwine_draca 13 EERIE is an odd little horror movie for sure. Shot out in the Canadian woods, it sees a group of forensic students travelling to a deserted island for a training exercise, where real-life dead bodies have been provided in order for them to hone their skills. Unfortunately, one of the bodies is no longer dead, and soon an aggressive zombie virus is spreading through the island.The title makes this sound like a supernatural ghost story but in fact its a grisly, gory effort. It starts out like the Christian Slater thriller MINDHUNTERS before morphing into a virtual reprise of the EVIL DEAD remake; even the zombie make-up looks the same as the demons in those movies. It can hardly be an EVIL DEAD rip-off - it only came out a month after the remake - but I'm sure the producers saw at least a trailer for EVIL DEAD and decided to copy the look. 13 EERIE is refreshingly old-school when it comes to the effects scenes, preferring to concentrate on old-fashioned prosthetics than the cheesy CGI usually found in such productions.The film isn't perfect, with some odd and unsuccessful choices made along the way; the decision to make the zombies growl like lions was a poor one, for example, and the abrupt ending is anticlimactic. But the copious and extremely unpleasant gore effects make it a stomach-churning thrill ride, and GINGER SNAPS star Katharine Isabelle makes for an effective and likable heroine. Watch out for Brit actor Nick Moran nailing a southern accent.

amesmonde A group of university students go on a field exam unbeknownst that the island was previously used for biological experiments on life-term prisoners.Lowell Dean director of the recent excellent 1980s throwback WolfCop, made his feature film debut with this little spin on the zombie genre. 13 Eerie is packed with nicely executed gross out effects, chewed off figures, exploding heads, torn neck flesh bites and like. While the cast are effective enough it's really Nick Moran's stone head Larry character and Katharine Isabelle as Megan that run the show and leave an impression. The set up mirrors Head Hunters as a group of FBI students go to a secluded island, only here it's a group of six forensic undergrads who examine set up crime scenes with real bodies from the morgue.The film benefits from an on location shoot, much of it at dusk, as the cadavers come back to life which gives it that required eerie (no pun intended) atmosphere. The score works best when it has the base and beats of the likes of Carpenter and Frizzi. The makeup and special effects are great, Dean offers some moments reminiscent of the music video Thriller as the infected burst through the floorboards and Fulici's Zombi with an extreme eye splinter scene, there's plenty of zombie-like homages as it comes to an action setup closing.It's a fine debut for the young director Dean with a novel staging for a virus zombie-like flick helping it avoid the usual cliché pitfalls.

cyberdeck2000 I'm so used to B movies with bad plots, bad acting and bad makeup that I was blown away by this film. It's scary, tense and kept my attention. It's not perfect, it had some ridiculous elements that I think might have been meant to provide humor and the romantic element was not developed enough for how they played it. It fell flat in that regard, but they were just a few minutes here and there.If you like movies that have you tensing up, rooting for the actors and cringing at the gore, you'll like this film. The gore is plentiful, realistic and gross.The female lead character was resourceful, imaginative and ballsy. The actress (Katharine Isabelle)did a really good job and so did most of the others. Brendan Fehr, an actor I liked from his TV days was also excellent in portraying his character. Actually, all of the 'students' made a good showing, believable and I found myself rooting for them as the movie progressed.A zombie movie that kept my attention at least as much as World War Z and on what I expect was a much smaller budget.
