    GazerRise Fantastic!
Leoni Haney Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
Lachlan Coulson This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
Allissa .Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.
zkonedog After reading the book "Wicked" and watching the TV miniseries "Tin Man", I can definitively say that the latter is a much more exciting experience than the former. While "Wicked" tries to fit itself into the Wizard of Oz cannon (and fails miserably in the process), "Tin Man" is more of a re-imagining of the Oz universe (think the 2001 version of "Planet of the Apes", but much better). A young girl named DG finds herself whisked away into a strange land called the Outer Zone, where she quickly meets a man who had his brain surgically removed (Glitch), a former police officer of the O.Z. Tin Man force (Cain), and a very hairy telepathic animal (Raw). The group, just trying to figure out what the heck is going on, is continually thwarted by Azkadelia, the evil ruler of the O.Z.Just from that brief description, it is clear that the key elements of the original "Oz" are in place, just a little stranger. However, where the series really succeeds is in its ability to mend both a tribute to "Oz", and creating its own unique storyline. Throughout the film, subtle little nods are given to the original cannon (think Superman Returns), while the main new protagonists embark on their own unique journey. Plus, by the end of the journey, the entire adventure actually finds its place quite nicely WITHIN the Oz cannon, not feeling pretentious (like "Wicked") or completely out of place.About the only "problem" with this series is its long runtime, which inevitably led to a few moments of tedium. All in all, though, this is fantastic Oz-related fiction that carves out its own little niche in the cannon material.
classicacres7050 I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I grew up with Wizard of Oz once a year but I must be going thru my second childhood because this was great. I admit I'm not too critical of special effects because I don't have much to compare them to...all I know is what I like and I thought these were great. The story kept having twists and turns that you never expect. I thought the acting was great even though I may be easy to please, I couldn't wait to see what happened next and was almost sorry when the movie ended. There are a few other movies like this I enjoy and, like I said, I wish they would have had some of them when I was younger...I envy the kids and their choices today but I still can enjoy them at my age (69) too.
copperncherrio This was entertaining but not mind blowing. Essentially it's the Wizard of Oz all over again but with a new twist. The plot is new and not fully explained. Zoey Deschanel plays DJ also the modern Dorothy. She's pretty emotionless and the story doesn't capture the your heart, but does well for the imagination.Now.For those hardcore, Wizard of Oz fans, you may not enjoy this, given that it uses the world of Oz to write the plot, but do not expect the original. With that said, the story is compelling and it would have been better if Zoey Deschanel had more emotion in life.
longjohnslass I'm a huge skeptic when it comes to Sci Fi channel movies, I've just been disappointed too many times. (I'm also not one for tampering with the classics). I saw the preview for Tin Man and was torn between "Wow, that looks neat" and "That's daring, they could screw it up easily." But I ate my words when I finally had time to watch it (being a three-part miniseries). I was glued the entire time and was in awe at how they kept many references to the original masterpiece while, at the same time, creating a whole new look for it. The casting was excellent (a few could've been traded but that's just my opinion). The vision of it all was ingenious, and the score (while somewhat repetitive) is catchy. I highly recommend "Tin Man" for those who haven't seen it.Although i do NOT recommend seeing it with really high hopes - I've noticed that tends to make all the corny parts of any movie stand out. Just sit back and enjoy it.
