The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

This was a hit in our home in the sixties, particularly with my grandmother - a hat and gloves San Francisco matron. In my world, her vote was the only vote that counted. We watched it religiously. Along with Bewitched and Jeanie, it was one our favorites. But like many shows of the era, it hasn't aged well. As with All In the Family, its topical humor dates it immediately. The fashions finish the job. It now comes off as tired and forced, with almost a stage-play atmospheric. It is hardly the show I remember.I contrast this show to others of the era that do not seem dated: the two already mentioned (Bewitched and Jeanie), Dick van Dyke, Beaver, and even Lost in Space.I'd give it a 10 way back when, but today? A four.

This is a charming, funny and lovely show. A pleasure to watch anytime. I didn't know about this show until it came out on DVD and now I love it. I'll buy every season. The main characters Ann and Donald (her boyfriend) have such chemistry. The show is basically about Ann Marie (an actress starting out) and her life in New York with work, friends and family. Marlo Thomas and her writers ensured the same consistent thread of quality in every show so the show has continuity. I find most shows that have stars as producers or in some power capacity are higher quality as they care about the show and characters. Marlo produced this show via her Daisy Production company as we learn in the first season booklet. I was disappointed to hear that everyone on the show wanted the show to continue but she didn't so she shut down after a few seasons. I think this show is a classic TV show. Ted Bessell as her boyfriend is perfect and they make a great on screen couple. Casting for this show was excellent. If you are looking for sex in the city or Seinfeld this isn't it. This is a charming TV show that makes me long for the 1960's when life was a bit more simple and pleasurable and less rushed. I'd highly recommend this if you are looking for something just fun to watch but keep in mind it is from the 60's.

'That Girl' is a 60s sitcom that holds up much better than most when viewed almost 40 years later.Altho Marlo Thomas provides most of the zaniness that sitcoms often seek to provide, my favorite role was actually Ted Bessel's Don Hollinger. The character of Don was, for the most part, a very calm, composed influence on the show. He seldom got flustered in the face of Ann's occasional hysterics or her father's often stern disapproval. Despite the 'character of his character', he was no straight man. Each episode has several intelligent witticisms or truly amusing wry comments from Don.The series stayed remarkably consistent through the entire run, in my opinion never 'jumping the shark', as so many long running sitcoms are prone to.Don and Ann set a good example for a mature and caring relationship, even in the face of comedy script episodes and antics.Highly recommended.

Those of us who were raised outside the United States, might have not seen many of the most famous shows or television series on American TV. My husband was born and raised in the U.S. When we first got married he kept telling me you look alike "That Girl." Which girl? The television show. I had a small crush on her! I don't know anything about that girl in a television series! Didn't you see the show when you're growing up? No!!! But you watched everything else! Well I guess the show was never dubbed. Then people would come to me and say, "You look like That Girl." Not again!! Now aware of the fact, I would say: The television series! That is what my husband says. Thank you! Then finally the series came back in syndication. I started watching it. I would stay up in the wee hours just to see the famous: That Girl! I was so flattered. There is no way I look like Marlo Thomas (It Happened One Christmas) Ann Marie. She is just too cute. My husband would say: but you do. I thought he is just biased. Well I guess in some way I must look like Marlo Thomas. I do match my shoes with my purses and belts, you know! Maybe that is it!! Whatever... I fell in love with the show. The series was about a naive well-dressed girl in the big city trying to be an actress and about the relationship of Anne Marie and her boy friend Don Hollinger, played by Ted Bessell (Hail to the Chief) and her dad Lou Marie, played by Lew Parker (Are You with It?). I still wonder how a struggling actress can be as fashionable as Ann Marie, I guess daddy was always around! A graceful television series. Boy, I am glad to find out how That Girl looked. People telling you that you look like someone who you have no idea what they look like is an odd feeling. It is far more important how they are in the inside! That is where it counts.
