Cinema_Lover This was the first "SuperFriends" TV series from the original 1973 to 1986 run, but it's also THE WORST. The great thing about the rest of the SuperFriends shows, even the more kiddie "The All-New SuperFriends" and "The Worlds Greatest SuperFriends" was that they all have tremendous repeat value. You can watch them over again as adults and not get too bored with them, this is especially true with the more mature "Challenge of the SuperFriends" and the two "Super Powers Team" shows. The original "SuperFriends" from 1973 is made for kids that are no more then 6 years old, with 4 year olds seemingly the target audience. This is a horrible show that is loaded up with all kinds childish stupidity. The traditional Justice of League of America members are here, but they don't fight any DC villains or any kind of interesting villains at all. All they do is encounter regular human beings that have gone bad and they try to change their ways with a Seasame Street type moral lesson. To make matters worse, there are two annoying kid tag alongs in the teenagers Wendy and Marvin, who are all decked out in their funky 70s clothes. They even have a silly pet animal in Wonder Dog (a Scooby-Doo wannabe if I ever saw one). The kids don't have superpowers they're just regular people, but they get to hang around the JLA team and always make stupid comments and do stupid things. Marvin even walks around in a flaky t-shirt with a superhero like "M" on his chest and he also wears a little cape. For me it's always been a toss up on whose the more annoying kid tag alongs,---Wendy & Marvin and they their pet Wonder Dog? OR the kids from the planet Exor that were Zan & Jayna and their blue space monkey Gleek? They were both jacked up ideas, but I guess the Exor kids have a case just because Zan and Jayna have some kind of superpower, however lame they were. The various SuperFriends shows are part of the Generation X culture (people in their 20s and 30s). But any Gen Xers that think they are retro cool by saying "Wonder Twin powers, activate!!", need to beaten to a pulp. None of the SuperFriends incarnations boast truly excellent animation, not even the great "Super Power Team" shows from the mid 1980s, but the original "SuperFriends" were drawn by the 2nd unit Saturday morning crew all the way. Just stay away from this show, it's not worth the time and effort to watch. I myself regret bothering with this piece of trash.

Brian Washington I pretty much grew up reading the comic books that D.C. published in the 70's and 80's, so as a seven year old I was excited to hear that a new cartoon with all the great heroes that I loved was coming out. Imaging my shock when this turned out to be a wimpy piece of garbage that had our super heroes imparting valuable life lessons to the two annoying brats that they were saddled with, Wendy and Marvin, and their flea-bitten mutt, Wonder Dog.Too bad this came out after several parents watchdog groups eliminated what they perceived as violent content from all children's programming. If I want to get valuable life lessons I will look at either the children's shows on P.B.S. or at another show that came out around the same time, Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. At least that one was entertaining.

Danse My favorite "SuperFriends" series is the first season with Wendy, Marvin and Wonder Dog. My favorite characters in this season are Wendy & Robin. This show can currently be seen on the channel Boomerang from Cartoon Network! Ted Knight (from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show") is the narrator! If you haven't seen this show please track it down on Boomerang and give it try.

raysond I remember this show vividity and it was the second longest running Saturday Morning cartoon show ever devised when it was on the ABC network from 1973-1986. The first part of the series was incredibly horrible from the beginning! Here, you have these superheroes team that never gets to fight any bad guys,but instead they do save the day in which several of the episodes depicted those idiotic characters Wendy and Martin were always getting into some trouble,and it was always up to either Batman or Superman to get them out(the same principal was applied to those pathetic Wonder Twins too,which I hated to the bone!! My friend and I wrote to the network executives at ABC telling them to get those two off the air once and for all!). The two only characters that were interesting were Wonder Dog(from the first season),and Gleep the Space Monkey(from the second and third season). Instead they would go on to fight pathetic villains who were trying to destroy the world or the Superfriends or basically tried to take over the Hall of Justice. The show's couple of season were excellent especially with "The Challenge of the Superfriends"(1978). In this one they do get to tangle with Lex Luthor,and Joker and several other baddies including Brainiac and The Cheetah,and also added new heroes too like Green Lantern and Apache Chief. Another one was "The World's Greatest Superfriends"(1983) which were very good,and in one episode I do recall where they trace Batman's(Bruce Wayne) true childhood and how the night his parents were murdered,and was the only series that introduce a minority as a superhero and it was about time they did something right!! Imagine if this were back on today,it wouldn't have the same effect because it would be kick right off the air(with the domination of the kids' network like the WB and FOX taking over with newer concepts in children's programming..)believe me,it wouldn't last a month!
