SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?

The movie is wildly uneven but lively and timely - in its own surreal way

It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.

First, let me review the quality by departments: 1. Graphics. The graphics is beautiful, combinations between photographic elements and animations really set the dark, violent, yet beautiful pre Meiji era portrayal. Any scenery was made with careful details, and I should say this is one of the best illustration of its time. You will not find any unrealistic fight scene in this OVA, the fight scenes are fluid, simple, beautiful, yet violent and violent.2. Story. For those who have watched the main series or read the manga, then you might have some idea how the story goes. But in this OVA, you will find a distinct feel you will not find in the manga or main series (especially because this OVA is the prequel to the main series). For those who have never watched the main series or read the manga, you don't have to worry. This mini series actually delivers a proper introduction to the story, and a flow you can follow. But you have to realize before that the mini series itself has a background: civil war in japan set at late 1800's and the country was split into two. The story is not a simply adaptation from the manga, it covers the development of who was Himura Kenshin was to the man he became to. More than the manga, this mini series give you more thrills, and feeling to it. If you are looking for a story with clear character development this one will not fail you. Because this is a character driven story, the strength of the story lies on the two characters: Kenshin & Tomoe and their tragic relationships.3.Audio The soundtrack is outstanding, memorable, and gorgeous. The thing is, I need to emphasize on how the dialog was delivered. I watched it the first time with Original (Japanese) dub and i will not give any complaint it was perfect, you can feel the emotion, thrills, anxiety while you won't find it in the English dub. Not only you will find some of the main dialog was deviated but you can't feel the same feeling when you hear the original dub. I recommend you to watched the original dub with subtitles, more literary translation is better than a deviated scriptThis is definitely one of the best animation ever made. If you look for a tragedy, this one is for you, you'll be taking the agony to your life and maybe reflect it. If you look for love story, you'll find so few have deep story as this one.

One of the masterpiece of animation which will touch your hart. I saw all the episode of the Rurouni Kenshin. Who ever watched the series knows the Battousai the man slayer. But how he became legendary man slayer is not shown in the Series. To know it you should watch this movie. The complex emotion of Love and Haterate is shown in this movie and executed superbly. How Rurouni Kenshin got the x mark on his face is showed in this movie. I liked this movie. It is very touching and make you feel the power of love. The best part of the movie it will not make you bore.I saw so may animated movies and I love animated movies. But this one I added in my best animation list. The only reason I have given rating 9 because the emotions in this movies is shown beautifully. it is very difficult to mix emotion with the violence or fights. but In this move it is beautifully executed

With no doubt, we have here one of the masterworks of the anime. It is great, from the beginning to the end, in this film everything is carefully prepared: the direction and the screenplay a memorable, told with an unusual beauty in anime, delve much into the characters and gives a faithful description of the time, both the politics and the era, and the problems that face the innocent who dies day after day about the politic situation. Here we have one sentence of the film: "... you should not feel resentment even despair, one who has died will not return to life, you glad to be alive, ...". And of course, I can't forget the score, one of the best anime score I never listen, it helps you with its delicacy and tragic beauty to believe the tragedy who have to live with poor Shinta (later knows like Kenshin).

The movie Kenshin deserves it's place among the best of anime, it stands as a reminder of what animation is capable of. It is rare to find a Samurai/Shogun animation movie that contains such attention to detail. This is apparent in the way the movie takes it's time to build it's characters and develop their respective relationships, in fact very little time is devoted to the actual fights scenes with the numerous battles and duels being over in a blink of an eye. What the movie actually focuses on is the doomed love story that develops between Kenshin and Toroe and the numerous symbols within nature that depict the character's fates.Kenshin is a true work of art that draws upon Japan's rich artistic history to create an epic tale of love and death. The movie incorporates distinctly Japanese arts within it's narrative, for example in this movie there is a strong emphasis on the depiction of the landscape, the changing of the seasons, the stoicism of the Japanese mentality. Through these artistic devices we see the tale unfold of an assassin who is torn between continuing his life of bloodshed or taking his chance to escape into a more quiet life away from the killings. With all the emphasis on the artistic achievement of Kenshin it should also be mentioned that the movie also delivers on a purely entertaining level with blood splatter tinged into practically every scene, but what stands out even more is the spiritual aspect of the story that tells the audience -amongst other things- that what we do in life will eventually come to haunt us in our future.A stunning poetic reflection of an often banal genre.
