Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
BoardChiri Bad Acting and worse Bad Screenplay
ChicRawIdol A brilliant film that helped define a genre
Usamah Harvey The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.
lastnerve After seeing trailers for Riviera, I was really looking forward to watching it but it's absolute twaddle. I usually enjoy thrillers, but the script for this jumps about so much that it was hard to follow what was going on. I only got through the second episode because I'd recorded it and so could rewind it whenever I needed to. I made episode 3 my last - it's just too much like hard work to watch. It's thanks to the beautiful locations that I gave it 5 stars, because without those it would have done well to get 3. Why Phil Davis and Anthony LaPaglia involved themselves in it, I'll never know - they're so much better than this.
Bruce Paley Just watched the final episode after which i realised i had no idea of what had been going on, i.e., who exactly was fighting who and for what reason, what everyone was after and why. a total waste of time. yeah, the scenery was nice, but it's just as nice out my window. utterly nonsensical. TV may be undergoing a renaissance with programmes like the sopranos, the wire, breaking bad, etc - all of which were excellent - but you'd never know it from tosh like this, or the current unbelievably awful top of the lake: china girl, which in fact is bad enough to be good. jane campion is supposed to be a quality director, but you'd never know it from that mess.
lentogiovanni Sincerely I liked Riviera, it is presented the refined and elegant life of rich people as a portrait. Everything that is beautiful is frightening too. "La costa azzurra", the set of Riviera, is amazing. Acting did not impress me so much, I think actors could have done it better. The main character, Julia, is a strong girl and Riviera shows the evolution of her personality: gradually she changes and become who she didn't want to become: A Clios.
smiffffy Frankly surprised that this has been slated, though it was only slated by the 'Guardian' readers - enough said! This series (have just binged watched all 10 episodes)was excellent. I've always liked Julia Stiles, since watching her in Save the Last Dance. I thought the plot twists and who is playing who was excellent. OK you don't have to be Einstein to keep up but it was hugely entertaining. I personally can't wait for Season 2!
