Matrixiole Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.
Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Married Baby Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Yazmin Close shines in drama with strong language, adult themes.
lilynectar I found this show by accident and binged-watched the first three seasons. The feel of the show is amazing, the people combined with the culture of New Orleans is what made this show so enjoyable. They keep repeating the idea that everyone in the city is a big family and by god, it sure as hell felt like it. The paramedics' bedside manner and ability to disarm almost all volatile or high anxiety situations along with the cops' easy way with the criminals that they are in pursuit of....moved this black, cold heart of mine. There is much to learn from them in the way they engaged with each human that came in their path.I went into season 4 without knowing the change in location and was absolutely heartbroken when I found the show filming in my native Tampa Bay...blech! Not to mention, there is no 'family' feel and it is all too impersonal. The paramedic's somewhat heartless response (in the 2nd episode) to the suicidal patient was in stark contrast to the heartwarming talks the paramedics in New Orleans would have in the same situation. And a bit too much machismo from the police side of things. The city of New Orleans did a great disservice to their police, fire and paramedic crews by canceling their contracts with the show. I understand not wanting 48 hours around, but Nightwatch, and the crews that were followed, was a great testimony to the Beautiful Spirit of the City <3 If they were still in New Orleans, I would rate the show a 10 but the change of venue was a bad (understatement) choice, IMO.
Elaineratrat I look forward to watching the New Orleans crew. The comradery is amazing. The EMTs/paramedics are knowledgeable and caring. The police officers are outstanding and good looking too! Although we don't see a lot of the fire department in the most recent episodes they don't miss a beat either. I'm going to miss watching the New Orleans crew. The intros for the Tampa episodes look good, but I don't think it will be the same for me.
Abby Watts If you've seen your share of A&E reality shows, you'll know what to expect here. This is not a compliment. Pounding music, quick cutaway scenes, dialogue that seems conveniently scripted, you get the idea. What saves the show is the actual content, which is quite interesting. New Orleans is one of the most violent cities in one of the most violent industrialized countries in the world. Wander outside the French Quarter and you have a higher chance of meeting your death that you would at the height of the Iraq war. But it's also a party city and has a world class university (Tulane). So imagine being emergency services/first responders in this situation and that's what this is.You see everything from paramedics to firefighters to police to SWAT, but my main interest is the paramedics. There are various partnerships on the show, but for my money, they could literally build an entire show around the partnership of the paramedic crew of Holly and Nick. These two are charismatic, caring and from what we see on the show, highly competent. And apparently the paramedics in New Orleans are highly tattooed, but I digress.I would rather see a more gritty version of this show to fit in with the city itself, but I really love seeing docs about paramedics so I'll take what I can get.
tbedard85 LOVED it! Caught it on television the other night.....wanted to watch MORE! Didn't realize it's a brand new reality series! I LOVE to see "live" medical, ems, police, fire action!! Recommended!! Want MORE!! I enjoyed seeing the interactions of the individual partners while working! I liked that they added "the outcome of the story" in any case where it was possible! Eg...whether the patient lived or recovered, etc. I also like the following similar programs: "Trauma in the ER"6 "Untold stories of the ER" VGH....Vancouver General Hospital "live" trauma center. Would be great to have these programs continue on.....so often they just have a certain numbers of episodes and thats it! Keep 'em coming!!
