Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

qui_j This show is average but plods along at a very slow pace. The personalities of the characters never change, so each episode becomes a series of predictable behaviors. There are just too many periods of awkward silence, shared glances, longing looks, and a never achieved finality to events! All conspire to wear the viewer down. It's worth binge watching if only to get it over and done with. Unless the writers change direction, it will run out of steam after very few seasons. The best characters are the not so politically correct Father and Mother in Laws.

uterje@hotmail.com The first series was ok, a bit beige but ok. The second series on the other hand is so boring and frustrating it makes you want to throw something at the TV. Cathy, with her perpetual beatific smile which was endearing in the first series but just irritating in the second, still lets everyone walk all over her, including her hapless son and his girlfriend, and Michael still can't string more than three words together. Peter Mullan here is a criminal waste of a good actor, but I'm not sure how soon I can stomach him again after this snoozefest. The dialogue bears no resemblance to real life - I have never met a 60-year old woman who is so dull and so much of a door mat as Cathy, or a group of people so utterly oblivious to the dynamics around them. The only saving grace is Cathy's grumpy father-in-law who as a few genuinly funny gags, but apart from that it is just all too bland and annoying. On the whole, I feel like I have been robbed of a couple of hours that I could have spent watching paint dry. If you want a funny sitcom about a dysfunctional group of people, try Two Doors Down (which also has a Cathy-like character, but at least she gets a chance to roar every once in a while). I can't spoilt it for you, because I just can't put myself through the last two episodes. Maybe Cathy and Michael will get it on, maybe not. Who cares.

bgsmall I have recently started watching this series (1) again after having lost the thread when the series was originally broadcast on the BBC. This is a TV sitcom / drama that is a joy to behold. The exquisite and nuanced characterisation, mellow pace across differing sinusoidal melancholic - comedic storylines and superb acting (Lesley Manville is derserving of all nominations!) makes for very special television.The plot revolves around the death of the husband of the central character (i.e 'Mum') and in the aftermath of that awful event the personalities that inhabit her house and life. In short (and having only watched the first 3 episodes of Series 1) I would recommend this if you like intelligent, nuanced screenplay, great acting and an all round wry look at the everyday lives of us.

caroldawnford This sitcom was a bit difficult to watch from the American perspective of comedy. It is like a train wreck but I just couldn't stop watching. I love the mom. My heart aches for old friend. I just ask " How can he possibly be her son?" The Grandparents are hilarious! The girlfriend well DAMN! The sister in law is sooo Mrs. Bucket.
