Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Skyler Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.
Egle Ra Want Fran & Riley back! That was a great show! Funny, enjoyable, cute. I'm upset I didn't have a chance to see the first season, but the second is really good. There are so many shows right now, which are still on air, but they are not so good. The writing of Living With Fran is great, the cast is also very good. Ben & Ryan are amazing, as well as Misti Trya and of course Fran. Could have been more celebrities to guest star on show, but it is a very good show anyway. I wonder if there is any possibility that this show could be reborn? I'm sure it would have it's viewers, but the re-airing of old episodes would be also good before the new ones. I would definitely watched this show if it came back to life again!
mllea I watched this show because like many other reviewers on here I am a Fran Drescher/ "The Nanny" fan. Generally I'm pleased with the show, mostly because it's better than most sitcoms that have been on TV the past few years. It could definitely be better, however. I am a bit disappointed with the writing because there doesn't seem to be any real storyline that threads through all of the episodes other than Fran has a hot younger boyfriend. I am also not a big fan of the cast, other than Fran. Fran is as fun to watch as ever. Her character on this show is a bit toned-down compared to the intensity of Fran Fine on "The Nanny," but she still is great at the comedy and overall is a lot of fun to watch. The rest of the cast doesn't really have a great dynamic. I find that I'm just not very interested in their characters. The show could also probably use a few more reoccurring cast members with stories of their own. Fran's daughter on the show, Allison, drives me insane. I know it's supposed to be a comedy but I just can't find daughters who are irritating and rude to be very funny. It would have been better if there had been an adult character for Fran to 'clash' with. Fran's on-show boyfriend, Riley, is slowly growing on me. He didn't seem to have a lot of personality at first but after a few episodes he's started to evolve into a more likable character. However, he's too "perfect" especially for a 20-something-year-old. They need to give him a few character flaws other than his age (if you could even call that a flaw). Finally, the cast member I do enjoy is Fran's son on the show, Josh. I like how he adds a light, humorous touch to the situations on the show, although the writers need to give him a bit more of a storyline to give him some life beyond making jokes about how disturbing it is to live with his mom's younger boyfriend. Finally, having Charles Shaughnessy guest star as Fran's ex husband Ted was brilliant. It was so funny to see him in a role that is so opposite of his role as Maxwell Sheffield in "The Nanny" and added a fun dynamic to the show. Overall, it's worth watching the show. I find myself laughing at several of the jokes throughout the episodes, which is much more than I can say about any other sitcom I've watched recently. (Other than "The Nanny" reruns, of course!) I think "Living With Fran" could be quite successful if they tweak it a bit by strengthening the cast of characters and story lines of the show. At any rate, I'll still be watching it because bottom line is that Fran Drescher is truly fun to watch and without her the show wouldn't have a prayer of making it.
BeckeySue2 I LOVE Fran Drescher, I could watch the Nanny forever, and I could not wait for her to return to TV.This is not the show to do it with. I was very disappointed in the plot, the acting, and the lack of chemistry among the cast. I also thought most of the jokes were crass.I am not interested in a dysfunctional family. Who came up with this lame idea for a sitcom? Light, funny, fast paced with a GREAT ensemble cast, this is the ticket, none of which I found here.Watch it fast. I don't expect it to last past a few episodes.Come on Fran, come up with something better. Beckey
captainfeces I attended a taping of this show on Sept. 9, 2004. While I like Jamie Kennedy and enjoyed his antics as Executive Producer of the show, I doubt that the show will last much beyond the mid-season replacement slot that it is slated to fill.I know that Fran Drescher has a following...I just don't quite understand who follows her. She was okay, but hardly stellar. Ryan McPartlin's acting felt forced and the relationship between he and Drescher didn't feel believable at all.In truth, I think the only saving grace of the show is Misti Traya, playing Fran's daughter. Her surly jabs and well-delivered bites were perfect. I didn't find them too out-of-the-norm by any stretch and, if I had a daughter like that, I think I would have many laughs at the dinner table. While I don't expect the show to last, I hope that Traya doesn't fade with it. She's a cute, spunky, little thing and I think she's fun to watch. Fran Drescher, however, is none of those things.
