Softwing
Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Matylda Swan
It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties.
Sanjeev Waters
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

I discovered LMOTP by accident while looking up Boyd Banks on IMDb. Because the show did not air in the U.S., I was lucky to find a dedicated you tuber who uploaded the new episodes each week. Being an American-Arab, I can see why many non-Arabs might find the show lame but being Arab myself, I was really able to identify with all the story lines week to week. Obviously, one is going to identify with their own culture closer than others. I would agree that many of the jokes may come off as being "corny", but at the end of the day, it really is a good, "clean", light hearted show. It probably would have been better received in the 70's or 80's. If you try not to take the show too seriously, I think you'll find a delightful little comedy. I think if more people understood Arab culture, do's & don't's, rules, etc. more people would appreciate the show. With many shows on TV today displaying so much "filth" as far as explicit sex and language, LMOTP always kept it clean and I appreciated that.

I don't see why this series has gotten so many bad reviews. It just came to the US market on Pivot and I think it's pretty entertaining. It's not trying to be high drama or acerbic satire-- It's just a cute little show. It can be a little predictable and the jokes sometimes fall flat, but it's funny inoffensive and emphasizes the similarities between Christians and Mulisms rather than exploiting the differences. Deconstructing and over analyzing programs like this one is a waste of time. You don't go to a picnic expecting surf and turf, and you don't watch shows like Little Mosque for the brilliant writing and heartfelt acting.

A nice addition to the Canadian television scene, Little Mosque is another "small town with wacky characters" type of show, like a cross between Doc Martin and Gilmore Girls. Zaib Shaikh plays the Fish Out of Water character as a Toronto city slicker who moves to quirky prairie town Mercy (for some reason, Toronto versus the rest of Canada is a theme in Canadian TV) to become the new imam. All of the usual characters are here; mercenary Yassir, his independent daughter Rayyan and her neurotic mother Sarah. Supporting "villagers" provide plenty of comic relief: ex. Rush Limbaugh-esque radio host Fred Tupper and the hilariously judgmental economics professor Baber. It comes as no surprise that the show shares writers with another successful Canadian export, Corner Gas. It must be noted for first-time viewers that after they left the show in the third season Little Mosque scripts became bewilderingly stupid, so it's best to stop with the third season.

Little Mosque on the Prairie was so over-hyped by CBC that I am actually angry. All those advertisements probably cost a whole lot of money, mostly the tax dollars that CBC is given to stay on the air obviously, plus the tax dollars that were wasted just making this show.... it makes me seriously angry. And the hype was a terrible idea. Sure a lot of people watched the premiere, and it hitched onto the whole "Corner Gas" phenomena which was huge at the time (before Corner Gas became a bad show itself) by setting itself in Saskatchewan, but as soon as anyone saw it they realised how awful it was. People were actually worried it would be too offencive! The show is somewhere on the level of offensiveness scale between peanut butter and a glass of water. If you are offended by this show I hope it is the atrocious attempts at comedy that are offending you. The writing is so predictable and so elementary that it makes me vomit in my mouth just thinking about it. These people actually get paid to write this garbage! The acting is the show's real undoing though. Not a single one of these characters can deliver their lines in at all a believable way. It's hard to tell if it is the writing or the horrible acting that ruins every possibility for a joke/laugh in this show. The two main characters, Amaar and Rayyan, couldn't act their way out of a dollar store paper bag. They are seriously two of the worst actors I have ever seen on a TV show, and they are the main cast members for some reason! What is CBC thinking?
