    ClassyWas Excellent, smart action film.
Teddie Blake The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
    Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Gary The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
feraling As a massive fan of Black Sails I was curious to go to sea once more.I recommend giving Crossbones a go.Be warned the opening episode is chaos, terrible editing, cramming way too much in and leaves you reeling. It settles down and becomes a great 9 part gem.The main cast are really good and there are some great images reminiscent of Bram Stokers Dracula ( James v Hart) being screenwriter. Neil cross of Luther fame is also involved. Overall you won't waste your time if you give go with it.
kalliope93 Crossbones features brilliant twists of plot and amazing dialog (Teach's speech prior to battle, etc.) Superb performances by Malkovitch and Coyle. The premise of this show accurately touches upon real history. It reaches beyond the shallow pirate "formula fiction" to reference the revolutionary and anarchist spirit that pervaded places like Freeport, Bahamas in the 1700s. This fictional Blackbeard rules through astute political savvy and even a sort of freedom fighter revolutionary idealism. The Puritans were not the only ones who wished to throw off the yoke of British Imperial rule. The "pirates" were anti- Puritans who shared a similar but more anarchistic (and more fun?) revolutionary zeal. As written for this show, Blackbeard's character is complex and Malkovitch portrays all the conflicts and inconsistencies of the character masterfully. It is a pleasure to see a great actor do justice to a well-written character. It is a pleasure to view a truly WELL WRITTEN show. It is the rare TV show which one needs to actually THINK to follow the plot twists. Deducted 2 stars from an otherwise perfect show b/c some of the characters were not as well realized or acted as the 2 leads. With such exceptional characters in the lead roles … a couple lesser characters noticeably fell short. Also the wardrobe was not as well-done as I have come to expect from historical shows (frex Musketeers although not as well-written does a fantastic job with wardrobe).WHY did they cancel this show after only 1 season? That seems a CRIME. Thankfully the end was not as painful as Firefly … they manage to wrap-up 1 story arc so you are left feeling almost satisfied … but I would have liked to have seen MORE SEASONS!!!!
thekitteey-70-827093 My husband and I looked forward to each and every episode of Crossbones. We very much enjoyed the two part finale tonight. We wish NBC would have kept it going a bit longer. No, it isn't historically accurate but it's still fun to speculate about Blackbeard the Pirate. The scenery was filmed on location so that was a plus. Also liked the acting and period costumes. I surprised myself when I found myself rooting for the Commodore. It seems that people who saw Black Sails didn't care much for Crossbones in the other reviews, we never saw that one. This is the first time we have seen John Malkovich, we think he is amazing and hung on every word. We also have found some new favorite actors and actresses. Thanks NBC for filling the summertime void. Great entertainment.
russellc-64-74981 Meh. Watched the first ep today. Gotta say it did not captivate me. Acting was fine, production values were very good but the writing was at best derivative and, well, kind of pretentious. Plot devices are clichéd beyond words and you could predict pretty much every single thing that happened.Having said that, there is a crap-ton of talent associated with this show. The settings are wonderful, costuming is excellent for a broadcast television production. I am going to try and hang in there with this one to see if things can pick up a bit. Stranger things have happened, Agents of Shield is a great example of what can happen when everyone gets their act together. So here's to keeping the powder dry and my fingers crossed.
