    Ehirerapp Waste of time
    PodBill Just what I expected
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Willwatson41971 Believe it or not, I just called Borders on a whim, and they actually had a copy. I ran down, bought it, and watched the whole thing that same night. This miniseries was even better than I had remembered. (Of course, I was 9 or so the first time, and watched it with my mommy.) Younger viewers, such as my roommate, have a difficult time looking past the sets, which don't look anything like "The West Wing", but I quickly began to ignore him, and just sat there and soaked it all in.I feel like there could have been a better attempt to clean up the film from the original airing, but it still was absolutely enjoyable. All in all, worth the seven and a half hours I spent in front of the TV last Tuesday night!!
d56fan My husband & I have both spent years looking for a copy of the mini-series, "Backstairs at the White House." We cannot understand why this great American piece of history has never been shown again or released on video or DVD. It was well acted, informative and very entertaining. No series has ever made such a lasting impression on me. It is a timeless movie that makes a large portion of our nation's history come to life. It depicts how our nation thought, acted, lived, and worked before, during and after WWII. We were able to see our culture evolve as the country changed from an agrarian society into the world's leading industrial nation, and how daily life was effected by advances in technology, medicine, political swings, and economic ups and downs. It is a classic that every student should see when studying American history. We have waited for years to see it again. Does anyone know why NBC has never re-shown or released this great story?
ksw-3 This was truly an amazing mini-series in 1979. I have been searching for this film on video for years. I feel that this would be a very important film for high school students to see especially during this election period. It really gave a "face" to the goings on inside the White House. In particular, the personal lives Lillian Rogers dealt with on a daily basis. This is a "10 star" movie and if anyone knows if it is available for purchase, please let me know.
GRW-2 Veteran Television Music Composer Morton Stevens, ("Hawaii Five-O", "Police Woman") wrote an outstanding music score for this fine TV mini-series. It featured a beautiful main title theme that really set the tone for each episode. I join the other comments here in hoping that there will be a video release soon of this wonderful show.
