John Brooks At first, the immediate problem posed by the prospect of this series is: sure they can manage one good season or two, but just how "feasible" will they actually make this series as a whole from a quality standpoint ? How much sheer quality can the producers squeeze out of this plot and environment before it runs out of puff and merely serves as filler content just looking at familiar friendly faces ?The answer is: the whole way. As promising as the first season is, 3rd Rock from the Sun just maintains a level of comedy, philosophical depth and critical writing all the way down to the sixth season and to the very final episode. The characters, initially hilarious in concept during the first batch of episodes, are written with a perfect continuity and coherence in execution.Speaking of the characters: one of the traits of a great series is not only how well written the main protagonists are, but how much utter joy the secondary characters can provide within their constraints and limited air time. Here, all of Don the cop, the land-lady "Kupchek" and her daughter, the Big Giant Head, or some of the professors at the college are all absolute delights to watch and add that extra depth and flavor to the episodes. The main leading roles as well as the supporting cast are very efficiently utilized and their potential well optimized. They never feel stale or redundant in their roles, despite being solicited at a high frequency. The show bases its strength on pure comedy, script and dialog - very similar to a play - and the actors basically support the entire edifice: there aren't any lengthy action scenes or other plot distractions that supply any potential leeway for the actors, it's all them and it's constant comedy and they all do brilliantly, with a laudable consistency. And any time the story is thrust to the foreground, the writers (a married couple, providing both inputs of female as well as masculine intelligent sensitivities) always manage to give it that comic relief that reminds the viewers exactly what they're watching and why they're watching it. It's comedy for the sake of comedy, and arguably, that's the only true comedy.That being said, a series can be true pure comedy but all the while dishing out interesting perspectives and morals. You can laugh out loud, enjoy the ridiculousness of the various proposed situations, savor the acting of a John Lithgow or Wayne Knight or Kristen Johnson being extreme caricatures... but then heed the underlying or final moral, and the show still hasn't pushed a political bias or any kind of partisan social commentary. The concept of 3rd Rock from the Sun was the perfect framework to supply copious amounts of delectable humor as extraterrestrials discover modern America, but also the immeasurably interesting prospect of aliens understanding the human condition through their lens - the perfect context for politically incorrect humor, and deep analysis of the human mind and society.9/10. Pure excellence.

Kirpianuscus a real special show. for the idea, not original but used in smart manner, of the adaptation to the Earth life style of aliens. for each actor. and for the great story. for me, it is the series who discovers Joseph Gordon-Levitt. and this could be enough for define it as memorable show. but it has more. a John Lithgow who did an irresistible character, full of him but naive and charming, French Steward in a role who explores each art of him in splendid manner, Kristen Johnston as the irresistible woman in a group of men and , not the last, Jane Curtin. it is one of series who must see not only once. because the humor is only a part of a large iceberg. the references to the Persian Letters by Montesquieu, the fine irony about ordinary habits, the social relations presented in not a comfortable manner are virtues of this great , seductive show.

Toxicwasteland This was one of the greatest sitcoms ever. It is hilarious from episode one to the series finale. John Lithgow and the rest of the cast really bring this show to life.The story follows four aliens who have been sent to Earth in order to study the human race and cleverly disguise themselves as a regular ordinary family.The show has very clever moments and is a must watch for everyone; young and old. It is wonderful to see a sitcom of this quality. Sitcoms these days need to learn from this show instead of doing the same old thing and do something interesting and intelligent.Once you've seen 3rd Rock of the Sun you simply cannot stop watching.

I could never really figure it out.Until the series finale, at the end, where their holding each other before they leave for the Home Planet, like a family.People talked a lot about how funny, and original the show is. But it's much more than that.For 6 years, we watched aliens disguised as humans try to fit into society as a fake family. But what they didn't realize, was that they were a real family.The show follows four aliens, Dick (Lithgow), Tommy (Gordon-Levitt), Harry (Stewart), and Sally (Johnston) on a mission to discover their customs on Earth. Dick is the High Commander of the mission. Tommy is the Information Officer of the mission. Sally is the Security Officer. And Harry.....has a connection thing in his head so the Big Giant Head (their leader) can send messages to them.The show contains great acting by John Lithgow, French Stewart, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Kristen Johnston as the alien family. Jane Curtin, Wayne Knight, Elmarie Wendel, Simbi Khali were great supporting actors, too.The only thing that I can really find wrong with the show is that it did take a downward slope in the sixth season. It wasn't as funny, and some of the jokes fell flat, but it was just as entertaining and enjoyable as ever. And the series finale was the best 3rd Rock episode since the fourth season.If you want to see a show with great acting, writing, an original story with creative plots for each episode. Then watch this show before all others.
