Winners Tape All: The Henderson Brothers Story Trailers

The story of Michael and Richard Henderson, two stepbrothers from West Virginia who saw an opportunity in the burgeoning VHS market in the 1980s and made their own backyard horror movies, "The Curse of Stabberman" and "Cannibal Swim Club." These films would've been long forgotten, but a recent resurgence in horror fans collecting rare VHS tapes has put the Henderson Brothers back in the spotlight. Thanks to their biggest fan, they're sitting down for their first on-camera interview and looking back on their movies - but they might not be as good as they remembered!

Clarissa Mora The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.
Hattie I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
Michael Ledo This is a low budget indie which spoofs the popularity of VHS horror films which are unavailable on DVD, and normally for a reason. Josh Lively and Zane Crosby play the Henderson brothers (Polonia already taken) or step-brothers, who made two low budget horror films in the 80's that had a fan. They show us their low budget special effects and how they would "theme" films with inside jokes. They actually hit on a lot of truth, if you ever listen to the director's commentary on low budget productions, they make it sound like the trash you are watching is a masterpiece. I imagine this is what you might call a mockumentary. In spite of the film showing originality and cleverness, I failed to find it entertaining or funny. It is like filming the neighborhood comedian because everyone thinks he is funny, but once you watch the guy on tape...not so much.Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
Michael_Elliott Winners Tape All: The Henderson Brothers Story (2016) *** (out of 4)This mockumentary tells the story of Michael and Richard Henderson. These stepbrothers from West Virginia found success during the VHS boom of the 80s with a film called CURSE OF THE STABBERMAN but their follow-up CANNIBAL SWIM CLUB. This film features interviews with the filmmakers as they discuss their rise and fall.If you're a fan of films like THIS IS SPINAL TAP then you'll probably enjoy this piece, which is a homage to the direct-to-VHS slasher films of the 1980s. Of course, these are fake characters talking about fake movies but at the same time this thing comes across so authentic that if you weren't already aware that these were fake things you'd think you were watching the real thing. What really impressed me was the fact that it was so authentic. The actors certainly do a great job selling their roles. These redneck brothers aren't the smartest people in the world and they sell that perfectly but they also perfectly sell how anyone could make a movie during the 1980s and sometimes those with no talent ended up with a hit video. The documentary also sells the clips from the two movies. I've seen a lot of direct-to-VHS movies and I must say that the footage here from the two films are a lot better and more entertaining than anything that was actually released. There are a few minor issues with the film but nothing overly major. Stuff like the brothers not having aged from the 80s is an issue if you want it to be but lets be honest. This here isn't going to effect the entertainment value. Fans of the horror genre will certainly want to check this out as it really is a fun and charming movie.
