This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.

Though I had read about the bizarre custody case of an 11 year old girl whose father, a convicted murderer, was awarded custody on the grounds that the mother was a lesbian, I never knew the amazing details until I saw this engrossing film at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The film brings up all the relevant facts that the courts either ignored or never knew about, hence the ridiculous ruling. But anyone who sees the film, and I hope the 4 judges who ruled on the case do, will wonder how in the world did such a grave injustice occur in the USA.This was a mind-boggling and educational film rich in content (minus those who refused to be interviewed for the documentary), well-edited and paced, and something every citizen should see.
