Reviews
Phonearl Good start, but then it gets ruined
Micah Lloyd Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
Ella-May O'Brien Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.
Stephanie There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Davis P Whether your a kid or adult, you'll love this one. Don knotts is classic alone, and even better and funnier when paired with Tim Conway. The gags are very funny, and it's also very clean and family-friendly. Just classic entertainment. I love the environment also, the Biltmore house is an awesome setting for this film. I also think all the other actors did a great job with their roles! Conway and Knotts are just a classic team, like a old version of amy pohler and Tina Fey. I love the twist ending too, as I always do! Laughs at every corner, awesome setting, smart dialogue, and cool effects makes for a great movie night at home one night!
Wizard-8 After sitting through this movie, I am at a loss to figure out why most other user comments are so positive. Don Knotts can be funny, and so can Tim Conway. But this movie didn't provoke one laugh, chuckle, or smile from me. It seems to be trying to emulate comedies from the 1940s, though throwing in some PG elements like fecal matter and blows to the crotch here and there. But the movie suffers from its lead performers giving slow and restrained performances. In fact, the entire movie crawls at a snail's pace. The movie also blows it when it comes to the murder mystery itself. The two detectives make no real progress in the case, so much so that they have to have the killer come out and freely explain everything. P.S. - The two lead characters are not private eyes - they work for the police!
Aaron1375 This movie was a favorite of mine as a kid as it had me laughing the entire time. It also was actually a good whodunit movie even though that was exactly what this movie was trying to spoof to a certain degree. The story has to private eyes played by Knots and Conway investigating what appears to be a murder. As they go through the case more people are murdered with a very badly done poem with each death. The house they are in is neat to as it has many secret doors and passage ways in it. Though through it all Knots and Conway shine the brightest as they try to make heads or tails of the investigation interrogating everyone in the house at the time of the death and so on. Yes, interrogating deaf people, people with no tongues and a whole lot of others that are a bit off and such. All the while Conway's character talking about the sinister wookilar monster, a creature with a pig head. There are also multiple attempts to use pigeons to send word back to the yard. Yes, this movie was funny and the best movie Conway and Knots were in together.
Spock-8 Don Knotts and Tim Conway are my favorite comedians. I liked this movie a great deal, mostly because they were in it together. They play off each other very well. The messed up poems (and Tim's apparent confusion) had me laughing so hard I was snorting. Tim's constant pigeon problems were quite funny as well. And no one can do 'scared' or 'cocky' funnier than Don. A true estimation of their talents was quoted early on in the movie when the gas station owner said, "Those are two 'idiots' what'll make their mark where ever they go.", just before the station blew up because of Don's cigar. I like the mark they've made with this movie and their other works as well.
