barberic-695-574135 Overall a good thriller with an unexpected ending. It´s one of those movies that you can really only watch once as once you know the ending it takes all the "magic" away. Would we watch it again, maybe in a few years when the memory is not so good.

Leofwine_draca THE OBJECTIVE is an intriguing little picture from Daniel Myrick, one of the directors behind THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, and it's going for the same sort of vibe, albeit with a completely different setting and set-up. The storyline follows a squad of soldiers on a special mission behind enemy lines in Afghanistan, searching for something mysterious in a god-forgotten desert landscape.The Moroccan locations look fantastic and there's quite a bit of suspense built up along the way, along with one or two decent action scenes. However, the film suffers from a lack of characterisation; the characters are all one-dimensional stereotypes, from the superstitious Arab who acts as their guide to the tough sergeant and usual foul-mouth military types. There's nobody to root for here, with the protagonist being an antihero of types, so it's hard to care about what happens.Unfortunately, the poor CGI effects in this film are a big detraction. I understand that they were going for a sci-fi vibe in this, but there's no real pay-off, just a cheat ending...

Freyguy6 After watching this movie last night, I made a point to remind myself to look up the next day... just what it was that I watched.After reading the reviews on here (a couple were a huge help, helping me understand some of the middle east lore), I realized that I felt similar to a majority of the other reviews on here. I started watching it because the setting and tag line interested me. I was very into the story through almost the entire movie. But, without having that background in some of the history and mythology of the area, I was left scratching my head at the end. This movie had a lot of promise, and for the most part delivered on that. The setting, cinematography, and acting were all pretty good. The special effects were... not the best, but okay. But the story really kind of dropped the ball in the final act. Worth a watch, but be ready to come away feeling unfulfilled if you don't know much about middle eastern lore and mythology. Be ready to do some reading up to answer any lingering questions, because the movie will not answer them for you.

ajheinrich59 One of the best Sci-Fi movies I've seen in a long while. And I've seen plenty. All this whining and complaining about unanswered questions, low-budget CG, unauthentic language, misses the whole point of the movie.....to entertain and to get us to think...THINK, people....about those unanswered questions and seek out the answers. As Mulder would say, "The truth is out there". It's up to us to be willing and courageous enough to seek out those answers, to follow the truth wherever it leads, accepting the truth and the conclusions they bring us to, however ugly they may be, no matter how much they may challenge our preconceived notions of who we are and what we're here for.
