Reviews
Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Brenda The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
Jemima It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.
rainabosniac I loved how realistic and melodramatic it was (as most teenagers know, everyone sometimes feels the need for a bit of melodrama). It was beautifully awkward, without it being cringey. So realistic and the seemingly minor hardships Oliver encountered seemed very major and dramatic. While managing do to everything I mentioned above, it still kept an indie feel to it and had beautiful soundtrack. Absolutely beautiful, love it from the bottom of my heart. 10.5/10
sjgalaxy This movie is weird but in a good way weird. It's a coming of age teen movie with different style. Cinematography in this is very good. some shots are very good. Also Editing in this movie is unique.
rodrig58 I liked this film very much! It is an exceptional movie, in all aspects, script, direction, actors, music, etc. Rarely, emotional strength how Richard Ayoade manages. I read that Woody Allen is one of his favorite filmmakers, can be felt also in Submarine. Particularly appreciated Sally Hawkins as the mother, Jill Tate, and Yasmin Paige as the school colleague and girlfriend Jordana Bevan.
Luc Dellaway I have just watched Submarine and I think that Richard Ayoade is one of the best indie directors today.I think that this is one of the best coming of age movies ever made and is an extremely underrated film. The one flaw with this movie is not to do with the film itself but it's with the marketing. This film was marketed as a comedy, this film is not a comedy but a very emotional, excellent piece of art.It has outstanding performances by Craig Roberts, Yasmin Paige, Sally Hawkins, Noah Taylor and Paddy Considine. The soundtrack by Alex Turner is also excellent and fits in perfectly with the film.
