Absolutely the worst movie.

All of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.

Live from Greensboro, NCAttendance 30,000Your commentators are Bob Caudle & Johnny WeaverTim Horner & Nelson Royal Vs Rocky & Don KernodleHorner and Royal win. This was a GREAT opener. I don't know much about anybody aside from Don Kernodle...but this was fast-paced, high energy and very exciting.*** out of 5Brad Armstrong Vs "Gorgeous" Jimmy GarvinIt ends in a time-limit draw. I like both guys but this was pretty dull with too many rest holds. Others may like it, I didn't.** out of 5The Barbarian & Shaska Whately Vs Baron Von Raschke & Hector GuerreroRaschke and Guerrero win. Started off well...but died down soon after. A very inconsistent match.** out of 5United States Tag Team TitlesIvan Koloff & Krusher Kruschev (C) Vs The Kansas Jayhawks (Dutch Mantel & Bobby Jaggers) Koloff and Kruschev win. Not a bad little match. I quite enjoyed it for the most part. Loved the intensity.**1/2 out of 5Indian Strap Match"Ravishing" Rick Rude Vs Wahoo McDanielWahoo wins, thanks to Paul Jones knocking Rude into the 4th buckle. Rude gets the last laugh until Baron Von Raschke and Hector Guerrero make the save. Pretty solid match here. *** out of 5Central States TitleBill Dundee Vs Sam Houston (C)They REALLY could have trimmed this card down to at least an hour or so. Houston wins by DQ. VERY boring match. Even the crowd got bored and started a mild "boring" chant*1/2 out of 5Hair Vs HairPaul Jones Vs Jimmy ValiantManny Fernandez is suspended above the ring in a shark cage. Valiant wins. Almost everybody is bleeding in this PPV. It was OK for what it was. Jones gets his hair cut off.*1/2 out of 5Street FightRonnie Garvin Vs Big Bubba RogersApparently, it's a Last Man Standing? How can a street fight be last man standing? Rogers wins, thanks to Cornette. An overbooked mess. Crowd chants Bulls****** out of 5United States Title; First Blood MatchTully Blanchard Vs Dusty Rhodes (C)Tully wins after another goofy finish. Match was alright up until that point. Nothing too special in my eyes.**1/4 out of 5Scaffold MatchThe Road Warriors Vs The Midnight ExpressThe Road Warriors win. Classic stuff here. Jim Cornette literally messed up his knee after falling from the scaffold. In hindsight, this wasn't a good idea at all. It is ridiculously dangerous.***3/4 out of 5Tag Team Titles (Steel Cage)Arn Anderson & Ole Anderson Vs The Rock 'N' Roll Express (C)Rock and Roll wins. I thought this was highly disappointing and slow moving a lot of the time. **1/4 out of 5We get a video tribute for Magnum T.A who had been injured badly in a car accident.NWA Heavyweight TitleRic Flair (C) Vs Nikita KoloffRic Flair wins by DQ....or wait. BOTH are disqualified. Terrible finish. The plans were forced to be altered after Magnum T.A got into a car accident. Nikita isn't a believable main eventer as a face in my eyes. The match was solid, I suppose.*** out of 5As one reviewer pointed out, it's a mixed bag for sure. It's worth watching at least once.

NWA Starrcade '86 was hyped as 'Night of the Skywalkers'. The match that earned it that tagline was a tag team scaffold match between the Road Warriors and the Midnight Express (Eaton & Condrey). This match was entertaining as a novelty, but only barely. The wrestlers involved were obviously unable to perform to the best of their ability due to fear of falling from the scaffold. Who could blame them? This meant a very slow match with a lot of punches and a few stomps, and a lot of holding onto things. It reminded me of four grown men playing on a jungle gym, and was overall fun to watch if you don't set your expectations too high. The best matches of the card were the Andersons vs. the Rock'n'roll Express and Ric Flair vs. Nikita Koloff. Although neither of those matches are what I would consider stellar, they were solid and enjoyable. Much of the rest of the card was not terribly interesting or inspired, such as Wahoo McDaniel vs. Rick Rude in an Indian Strap match, Jimmy Valiant vs. Paul Jones in a Hair vs. Hair match, Ronnie Garvin vs. Bubba Rogers in a Louisville Street Fight, and Dusty Rhodes vs. Tully Blanchard in a First Blood match. This one was particularly disappointing to me, as I know what both men are capable of, and this match was not what I would consider a great showing for either.Overall I would call it a pretty mediocre card. If you like classic NWA wrestling like I do, you will enjoy Starrcade '86. Otherwise I don't think this pay-per-view event will be incredibly enjoyable. It was most definitely not among the best that I've seen from Jim Crockett Promotions.
