Reviews
WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
amarder89 After watching this cinematic masterpiece, I couldn't understand why this wasn't released as a feature film. James Callis (of CSI fame) delivers the performance of a lifetime as he brings the fabled Merlin to life. Unlike other reviewers, I found his accent authentic and his drugged appearance reminiscent of the stories of old. The only reason I rated this movie a 9 (and keep in mind, I have exceedingly high standards), is that in one scene it appears that a bird is not carrying anyone, yet they all appear at the sorcerer's palace. Aside from this blunder, no doubt caused by their rush to send this to our screens, it was impeccable. As an aside, I thought that Laura Harris never looked better, but I will accept arguments for "A Mighty Wind" (2003). Her latent love for Lancelot provides a bubbly subtext for this brilliant work.
Westcoastal I had to take the time to write a review of this movie, in the hope that it might save someone else who may be sucked into watching it. My clear advice here is to stay away from it - it's a dismal waste of time. I am someone who loves fantasy, who loves swords and sorcery, who loves Merlin and King Arthur, who should have loved this movie or at least found it enjoyable. I have no issues with low budget production or crude effects. I have imagination enough that stuff like that does not bother me at all. What I do have a problem with is bad writing and wooden, laughably bad acting. That is what killed this movie. The concept was fine, but the execution was terrible. I really felt like I was watching some terrible cosplay event among amateur roleplayers. Not recommended. Unless that's your thing.
ventrux I can say that I saw all absolutely all the movies on the genre, Merlin is one of my beloved characters and this guy James Callis -who is not that bad in Battlestar- is the worst Merlin that I ever saw, I mean it. His accent is so horrible, not enough old, not enough wise, terrible. The blood in the movie looks like grasp berry juice. There are some scenes so slow and useless like the one in the fountain. What the heck is doing Medusa in UK? Excalibur is not any sword is "The Sword" and it looks like any sword. What the heck happened in the eagles scene? The rest of the movie is like a big chapter of Xena or Hercules, not that bad.
weedymuff I won't even bore you with why this film is great. I am just here to say that I watched it with my mates tonight not expecting much and we were blown away at how it sucked us into the story. It's so well written and the acting is outstanding. How this has been poorly rated and not won any awards beats the hell out of me.The special effects for such a low budget film were amazing, we couldn't tell if they were effects or not to start with. The locations for filming were just spot on and beautifully put together shots. The mise en scène was clearly carefully looked at and just pays off like a dream. If you get the chance definitely check out this film!!
