Reviews
MamaGravity good back-story, and good acting
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Kamila Bell This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Walter Sloane Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
sergepesic The well to do, middle-aged American couple, seems to be in a middle of a marital crisis. The husband is in love with a much younger women and seeks complete happiness. Well it has to be a fly in that particular ointment. " Married Life" tries to be a clever pastiche set in 1949, when women were glamorous and desperately needed protection, or that's what martini swilling, two pack a day smoking men, liked to think. So, the movie tries to be smart and amusing and a bit suspenseful, but it fails in that endeavor. With all the stirred emotions and betrayals and deceptions, in the end it doesn't go anywhere. It just fizzles and expects us to feel buzzed and refreshed.Sorry, I definitely wasn't.
iNeedaTimeMachine21 This film is nothing short of delightful. The humor is subtle yet effective, the acting brilliant. Cooper and McAdams give especially astounding, emotion-provoking performances, and Brosnan and Clarkson are simply wonderful.Married Life is a quirky picture, but a funny, romantic, and well-acted one as well. The cinematography is breathtaking, and the music charming...especially Doris Day's rendition of "I Can't Give You Anything But Love" in the opening credits. I enjoy movies that breathe, that sneak their way into your heart before you even realize what's happening.Married Life does just that.
blahblahblah12345 The lead cast was fantastic. Chris Cooper, whom I'm not very familiar with, was perfect, Patricia Clarkson as always, masters her supporting role, Rachel McAdams also shines in perhaps her strongest role to date. Pierce Brosnan may be forever plagued as James Bond, but he fit into this film very well and I was pleasantly surprised. Despite the strong performances, after seeing this film, I knew many people wouldn't have loved it as much as I did because many of the things I appreciated about the film isn't the type of stuff that would get a typical movie goer excited. Mainly, I adore irony and dark humor, which many people do not. Many people didn't find this film to be even a dark comedy and found it boring, but if you pick up on it this film is truly brilliant. I would recommend watching this film with an open mind and be prepared to think a little bit.
Jay Harris This is a very well made & very well acted film, set way back in 1949.Ira Sachs directed & captures the period near perfectly. This is basically a 4 character film. It is a combination romantic comedy drama, There are a few twists along the way (some expected). Pierce Brosman & Chris Cooper are the best of friends from childhood, Chris is married to Patrica Clarkson, they seem happily married.Chris however has fallen madly, passionately in love with Rachel McAdams,WHO CAN BLAME him. Pierce being single also falls head over head in love with her., Here is where the naivety comes in. NO ONE suspects anything or do they? I will not say is Patrica may or may not have a fling as well..This twist & more are yet to come.On DVD they have 3 alternative endings. I prefer the one they did use. Be sure however to watch them, as there is another small twist. This movie only had a limited theatrical run, mainly because it was figured that todays action oriented audience could not sit through a romantic comedy drama, that all conversation.I enjoyed it & I believe others will as well.Ratings: *** (out of 4) 86 points(out of 100) IMDb 8 (out of 10)
