Good concept, poorly executed.

All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Ava-Grace Willis
Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

When I first saw this on Encore the other day I thought the guy making this "documentary" was a sick dude! What type of man does this sort of thing, WOW! And the ending is just amazing! This is a great film, all the characters in it are believable (and unbelievable!) and work well all together in their big frightening tangled web that they weave! And as for this movie mocking poor little Asian girls in the US... I'd have to disagree. If you think that all Asian immigrant girls come to the States to marry someone to become a citizen then perhaps YOUR the one with the problem. After all, my very own personal Mail Order husband claims that I'm the best wife he's ever married, and plans to stay with me at the very least till his green card clears. And he's Russian, not Asian. Well he's half Japanese and Russian, but he lived in Russia. Anyways, back to the point... wait... did I have a point?PS> All that extra stuff at the end was just added so I can make the minimum post requirements!

I found this movie while flipping through the channels after watching "Field of Dreams." Not ready to go to bed yet, I happened upon "Mail Order Bride" and found myself fascinated with the idea of a documentary about the mail order bride experience. I had a friend who did this much to his own peril as his mail order wife threatened to kill him in a fit of rage. The guy in the movie, Adrian Martinez, struck me as the typical loser type, most would expect to mail away for a spouse. The man's expectation is that the woman he marries will behave as she would in her own country, be submissive and compliant to his every whim. Her expectation is that the American man she marries will rescue her from the misery of life in her own country and give her the taste of freedom and true love. The movie starts there and it just gets weirder and weirder.Although there were indicators along the way, I got caught up in the 'Truth is stranger than fiction' quality of this film. Every time Adrian or Andrew would do something or say something that profoundly exposed their lack of maturity and clueless notions about human relationships, I chalked it up to just that, not once suspecting that the joke was really on me, the viewer. The blooper scene at the end, mercifully, let me back in on the joke. This is brilliant film making. I would not change a thing. This film is not for everyone, but I have a few friends with a twisted enough sense of humor who would appreciate it.

i hated andrew and adrian. and at least you know what kind of a jerk adrian is right up front. andrew was by far the worse human being. i guess since i've known a few filipino mail order brides who came over looking for a better life and married white American losers whom no American women could put up with, i recognized too much behavior in adrian and then andrew. what a jerk. there was nothing that Lucia did that made me think she deserved either one of those men, or any of the other men she had experience with. (heck, yes, i even know the horny old goats too who want to take advantage.) the things people will put up with in pursuit of possible betterment of their situations.what possessed this guy to make a film like this? exposing even a fictional jerk side of himself???? bleah.

This move is excellent. It was funny and sad and amazing. The whole "baby" scene was hilarious. Everyone needs to see this movie. My friend and I find ourselves quoting it constantly. Earl pig is the single most brilliant character ever created. And at the end of the movie you find yourself hating everyone. You also find yourself wanting your very own mail order bride. Like I said, this movie was brilliant. I suggest everyone watch it for the pure amusement of it all. The characters were very real and while the acting was terrible, it was good for a laugh. I've seen this movie four or five times and it gets better every time. You'll fall in love with it once you see it.
