Boobirt Stylish but barely mediocre overall
Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
GazerRise Fantastic!
SparkMore n my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
roy chan I watched the movie today on DVD. Good movie I would say, different treatment to a love story. As a romance, this film has plenty put on its plate. Logical conversation shown between two guys is a good concept. Its two stories tell the stark difference between the modern rules of courtship based on practicality, versus that of the more traditional way, though the common thread will always, and has been to follow your heart.Amongst actors Saif Ali Khan does a good job as Jai though he looked too old for it, as Veer he does a great job Deepika Padukone does her role well, though it doesn't demand much from her Rishi Kapoor is outstanding as usual. In My Opinion Love Aaj Kal is one of the good Love Stories I have seen so far !
Sherazade What is going on in India? Bollywood especially. Where is all this going? What's their angle? The script for this film was not entirely bad but the casting was horrendous. Saif Ali Khan as a playboy refusing to settle down sounds okay but not when paired with Deepika Padukone. It seemed so forced and annoying. Rishi Kapoor is of course wasted and looks wasted in his role as the typical uncle/daddyji. I don't see the point of the two foreign girls either. Their roles could have easily been played by Indian girls and with more finesse might I add. The Brazilian model who plays Harleen Kaur needs acting school. The French actress who played Jo (Saif's girlfriend) was a little better than Kaur but even she was pitiful and her presence absolutely uncalled for but bearable. Deepika's character made me want to vomit so I'm guessing she did a good job with her acting at least. The robbery scene was one of the most unrealistic scenes I have ever scene of any cinema thus, far. Ugh! This movie was quite awful.
DesiBaba Success of Jab We Met is what gave Imtiaz Ali the license to shoot this expensive romantic drama, with filming locations in UK and US. Unfortunately the story itself is cliché and predictable, there is nothing refreshing like JWM, which had amazing chemistry between the leads and top notch soundtrack. LAK falters at both of these aspects too. I think this was one of the best performance from Saif. The movie was very much along the lines of Bachna Ae Haseno with the lead who treats his relationship nonchalantly until the end when he realize they are each others true love/soul mates. Deepika is good, Rishi Kapoor is reliable as always with another stellar performance. The Brazilian model (Giselle) who played the young Harleen was a surprise, for someone who is from another country with no Indian background, she does amazing job portraying a demure Sikh woman from a very conservative family. I had no idea she was not Indian until after I looked up the credits on IMDb.6.0/10.0
Amit Aishwarya Jogi Indian love in the 21st century isn't quite as innocent- or for that matter, Beautiful- as what it used to be in our parents'- and grandparents'- day and age: these days, lovers' egos are much too big; their minds, much too fickle; and they never seem to mean what they say. This, anyway, is the message of Imtiaz Ali's latest offering. Personally, I didn't much care for it: for one thing, there is no chemistry between Mr Ali's pair of star cross'd lovers. They meet, have sex, break up, and somewhere in between all that, manage to fall in love: but when exactly, and why, and how, is left to our imaginations. Moreover, by alternately telling the stories of a yesteryear romance and the modern one, I have a feeling that Mr. Ali wanted to show us the timelessness of love; that underneath all the glitter, Love has always been the same, and will be so forever: Pure, 24 carat Gold.Unfortunately, that is a message this film fails to deliver.Rishi Kapoor, who plays Saif's amanuensis-cum-guide, is, as always, refreshing; but the one true revelation of this film is Harneet. She doesn't say a word, but her Innocence, such as it is, is worth more than all the words in the world. It's not difficult to imagine why anyone couldn't help but fall in love with her. (This reviewer certainly did!)In the end, Love Aaj Kal is too much icing, but too little cake. For real Gold- and not just glitter- see Jab We Met, Mr. Ali's first film.
