Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

One of those movie experiences that is so good it makes you realize you've been grading everything else on a curve.

I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

I remember seeing this one when I was 6-7 first time. I liked it very much then. Perfect and charisma actors, great words of Alexandre Pushkin, the mysticism and some horror inside. First of all these series include some brilliant people of those days, such as Visotskiy, Smaktunovskiy.. Good directing, costumes, outstanding music by great composer Alfred Shnitke-altogether is a real monument for A S Pushkin, the most respected afro-Russian poet. The best Pushkin screening ever. One can hear and see true life depth here. the original stories mean the most disturbing questions that Pushkin head in his mind for a long time , so the film gives some answers on the destiny of poet and shows the fears that he was struggling with all his life.

The movie is more a set of little theater plays than a film. Nevertheless, it definitely is a masterpiece of the Russian cinematography. Based on poetry of Alexander Pushkin, one of the greatest Russian poets, it strikes both with impressive lyrics and outstanding performance of Vladimir Vysotsky, Innokenti Smoktunovsky, and other great Russian actors.Among the "Small Tragedies" you will find such well-known stories as "Mozart and Saglieri" and "Don Juan".
