.Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

My son, who was 8 when this came out, loved this movie. He had been excited to see it as soon as the trailers started appearing in 2013. We saw it in 3D in Hindi which was not our preference, but it was all that was available in our area. This is a good story, it's well told and yes, the animation is a bit stilted, which is odd considering it's motion capture. However, the highly stylized look of the film works because it is a myth/fantasy/saga.It was also really wonderful to see Rajnikanth in this sort of role again, which he can't play anymore in live action due to his age. Rajnikanth is great in this as is Deepika. The story is solid. The fight sequences wonderful. The look and feel of the entire piece is fantastical. And my son loved it. He thought it was one of the better movies he saw this past year. I really enjoyed it too.

The reason, the movie deserved for 8 rating are 1. Rajini has never taken any risk in his entire film career like this before. Acting in motion capture technology is big risk especially for person like Rajini as average fans all they wanted is to see his face in the big screen. He always taken easy path where Kamal has taken hard path to introduce something unknown to Indian movie industry. Hats of to you guys2. I have seen most of the movie taken by motion capture technology and the result is same as Kochadaiiyan. except few, most of the movie they have used unknown actors so you will hardly see a resemblance. people compare Avatar but none of the actors are known to common man and none of them are as equivalent to super star like status. to put it simply no one cares about their faces. 3. none of the Hollywood movies taken till today never shown dancing, jokes, or some style of a real life hero which is complicated and completely new for this movie. I am from film background and I can see it should have taken monumental effort to complete this moviesome negatives -------------- 1. Story is not very captivating. very average. 2. Main star cast selection is complete waste except Nagesh and Deepika 3. too many songs instead of all those songs, they could have concentrated on improving the quality further more

Kochadaiiyaan, movie based on performance capture technology is definitely one of its kind and opens new door for movies which are expensive for real time making. The Strength of the movie is its magnificent plot and witty dialogues written by K.S.Ravikumar. This movie revolves around the plot that everyone one of us has enjoyed listening or reading to.Having a strong story in hand, Director Soundarya has conveyed it appropriately to audience using best of the techniques, with the help of A.R.Rahman's lively music.Above all, it was SUPERSTAR Rajinikanth's charisma that has helped a lot for portrayal of lead characters in the movie. Without his star power this movie would have found hard to reach the audience.I don't find it necessary to criticize on the graphics part of any movie. As long as the story and the characters are good, its okay to bare with graphics. All movies that rely on technologies will need improvement.Except for some songs and dragging battle scenes in second half, this movie will keep you engaged and entertained thoroughly.Having watched it thrice already, Kochadaiiyaan will be labelled as HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.!

Soundarya Rajinikanth Ashwin has pulled two impossible feats, making India's first motion capture animation movie successfully and also achieving a disaster with Rajinikanth-an impossible feat.Kochadaiiyaan, has everything going good for it from the time Rajinikanth gave his nod. An ensemble cast of Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, Sobhana, Sharat Kumar and Nazir, plus Eros stepping in for distribution and finance and above all Rajini fans giving the movie their full support. Plus the movie had state of art technicians working on it and they managed to achieve the best of the best, from the dimple on Deepika's cheeks to her cleavage and to the wrinkles on Rajinikanth's fingers, everything was taken and displayed in the minute detail.Alas! With all this the makers forgot the primary ingredient which makes up every movie-THE STORY. After you finish marveling at the technical brilliance, you start looking for the story, which clearly disappoints and for the first time ever, you have people yawning and stretching in a Rajinikanth Movie. The movie is 118 mins (2 mins short of 2 hrs) but it seems so long drawn that it might as well have been 4 hours long.Rana is a trustworthy general in Kalingapuri's army and his strategy of including POWs into the army gives good results and kingdom achieves lots of victories. Rana then decides to vanquish Kottaipatanam, a neighboring enemy state and marches towards it with the entire army. Suddenly Rana defects taking the entire army with him. It is revealed that Rana was an undercover soldier from Kottaipatanam.Back home,Sengodagan (Sharat Kumar) the prince falls for Rana's sister Yamuna (Rukmini) and the hero uses his charm and has Rishikodagan (Nasser) the king agree for the wedding. Rishikodagan performs the marriage but banishes Sengodagan as he dared to love a common woman. Vadhana, The princess (Deepika Padukone) is head over heels in love with Rana and decides to confront her father. At the very moment, an assassination attempt happens on Rishikodagan and Vadhana foils it and surprise the assassin is Rana, who has been plotting revenge for the unjust execution of his father Kochadaiiyaan. As written above, the animation is flawless, everything was taken care to the T. You even have the late Nagesh in a comic role and the song picturizations are simply awesome especially the peacock dance with Deepika Padukone and the amazing pre interval fight sequence between Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone needs a special mention. All in all if Soundarya had taken proper care in the story department, we would have had an instant classic. Only pray that she does a better job in the sequel (oh yes! We were warned about that in the end credits)
