Knights of Badassdom Trailers

Three best friends and dedicated roleplayers take to the woods to reenact a dungeons and dragons-like scenario as a live action role-playing game. Trouble arises when a prop spellbook purchased from the internet ends up being a genuine grimoire and they unwittingly conjure up a blood-lusting succubus from hell.

Reviews
Tobias Burrows It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.
Payno I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.
Phillida Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
CelluloidDog Rarely do immature comedies get approval or good ratings. There are a few: Dumb and Dumber or There's Something About Mary….or anyone of Will Farrell's movies. But perhaps viewers take themselves too seriously. This film is centered around a LARP (live action role-playing game) battleground where characters do often take themselves seriously in some sense. Often costumes are makeshift and battle scenes are amateurish. Authenticity is mixed since imagination takes precedence. The movie takes the same approach, hence, the goofy dragon and monster from hell. Peter Dinklage as Hung is a fun, atypical hero and Summer Glau is slinky as Gwen (isn't every medieval female lead named Gwen, short for Guinevere?). Watch it for fun, light humor. It is funny, geeky and goofy. The subtitles are cute/creative, direction is average, acting is average (actors usually shouting), script is good at times, flat at other times and some gag just doesn't work. It's a slightly above average comedy but you have to appreciate the geekiness and lightness of the film. I'd give it a 6.2-6.3 rating…round off to a 7 just to counter the critics. Just unserious fun to bring a smile and chuckle but maybe not for everyone.
Liam Poczatek I actually enjoyed this movie very much. I can see why other people don't like this movie. the effects are not very professional, some jokes are missed on, and there is a repeated puzzle that's never actually answered. But overall I watched it just to pass some time and to cheer up a bit. So I believe that this movie deserves more credit than it's given. It's not made to be a Blockbuster, it's not made to be taken too seriously. If you watch it light-heartedly I promise you will enjoy this movie. Maybe even have a smile at the end :)Best Regards, Liam
maxskyfan-9 PlotJoe (Ryan Kwanten) becomes despondent after his girlfriend breaks up with him so his friends Hung (Peter Dinklage) and Eric (Steve Zahn) take him to a medieval role playing camp where he meets Gwen (Summer Glau) and her cousin Gunther (Brett Gipson). Joe is reluctant at first to get into the festivities, but he comes around in the end. Then something goes horribly awry when Eric unknowingly uses black magic to summon a demon who looks like Joe's ex-girlfriend. She goes on a murderous path of destruction and it seems like there is no way to defeat her. Should they run to the hills or should Joe and his teammates band together to stop her before she begins killing the rest of their fellow gamers?Character DevelopmentThere is virtually no character development here. Everyone seemed unaffected by what happened to them and just carries on. Other than Joe getting over his girlfriend nothing really happens. This is not a film of personal growth.ActingThe comic timing seemed to be in sync for the most part. The lead actors did a fine job with what material they were given. Because everything was played for laughs none of the scenes where taken seriously, even when characters were faced with the threat of death. Under these circumstances this was not the realm to test anyone's skills of their acting ability. Yet I don't believe I have ever seen Steve Zahn in a serious acting role, though he always seems at home playing the comedic part.OverviewDespite what appears to be a low budget production that seems to be filmed over a short period of time this movie was very entertaining for the most part. For its comical aspirations don't fall flat. It wasn't a laugh out loud funny, but I believe there was a great amount of humor there even though the antics were a bit sophomoric, yet no worse than other comedies of the recent past. I think the story reached a good mix of horror and lighthearted humor. What the producers set out to do looks like it has been accomplished.
waannief I really loved this movie. Not just because I live in the Spokane area. This has an excellent cast, was fun to watch and looked like a lot of fun to make! The misleading thing about it - the title and overall promo makes it look like it is mostly comedy but that is not it's actual core. Knights is similar in tone to Tucker and Dale VS Evil, with it's humor and having the right degree of thrill and chill. Though it never goes for campy. Just good old fashioned 80's style schlock monster creation, blood, gore, and body parts a-flying. It was an unexpected treat to have it be as serious as it was. The LARPers were completely authentic and that gave the atmosphere total credibility. So as the action takes off and it starts feeling like an episode of Supernatural, these foam sword toting weekend warriors are out of their league but man up for the fight and its awesome. I can see where younger horror fans may dislike the more traditional style here without loads of CG and relying more heavily on make-up and latex but for fans that appreciate the good old fashioned 'real' thing, this has it. Now, I do think Knights of Badassdom could have benefited from a different title. Something a little less campy sounding could've opened up more of an audience, I feel. But overall, I welcome this kind of good time horror back to a genre that has been getting more and more stale over the years. Director Joe Lynch shows himself to be much like a young Sam Raimi and this cast just gave themselves each an addition to their resume to be proud of and that will make LARPers around the world proud of. HUZZAH.
