Good concept, poorly executed.

It's easily one of the freshest, sharpest and most enjoyable films of this year.

Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.

"Le Beau Monde " (=high society) is would be modern cinema ;its lines are often too intellectual ,lacking any spontaneity and absolutely devoid of humor .As for the subject,it's as old as the hills .The characters are rather flat and the actors are bland ,with the exception of Sergi Lopez ,the unforgettable "Harry, the friend who wish you well",who gives a warm performance -the scene when he tells Alice that they come from the same background and they have got to flout the well-to-do snobbish people is the one moment the movie seems to go somewhere. The Young photographer (from a wealthy family) is the umpteenth version of the post May 68 rich kid ,rebelling against his bourgeois world but doing it cowardly and without reneging on his privileges (playing safe and knowing that mom can pull strings for him). The actresses epitomize wooden acting.Actually, when it's over, the story could go on and on and on ...Perhaps will there be a part 2,in China ,or somewhere else far from the moms?
GUENOT PHILIPPE
This is the kind of french films that we often watch since decades now. Very close to actual situations and reality, the daily problems of the usual life characters. Every person in the audience can feel exactly the same as the characters on the screen. Not exactly a drama but neither a comedy. Deep study of people, this tale of a young woman falling in love with her mature female fried's son, and with all the means with her own mother and the step father of her new boyfriend. Everything here is accurate concerning the behaviours of those characters. The perfect example of what the French movie industry can give in the comedy drama style. Not fancy, not superficial, just sensitive, tight and accurate.
