charliesonnyray Hercules Against The Moon Men doesn't deserve a 2 out of 10. It doesn't deserve an Oscar either but it isn't THAT bad. It's not good but it is at least entertaining. I have seen plenty of bad films that often insult your intelligence and make no sense but this film- though incompetent in most areas-in no way feels like a slap in the face like say Troll 2 or Howard the Duck. This movie tries to be a mixture of a Mythical Epic like Clash of the Titans and 50's Sci-fi like The Day the Earth Stood Still. And we get the best(or best worst) of both worlds. The development of the characters and their relationships are almost non-existent yet they still try to pass it off like they are growing i.e. a girl falls in love with Hercules even though they have known each other for a total of 12 minutes. The aliens are absolutely ridiculous but they look as if effort were put into them unlike other movie monsters like the goblins from Troll 2. The acting and dialogue are very wooden but you can at least say some work was put into it unlike say the actors from Troll 2(have I mentioned how much I hate Troll 2?). It doesn't try to be historically accurate or anything, it just tries to be exactly what it promises: Hercules fighting a bunch of aliens and that's exactly what it is and nothing more. I would say check this movie out if you wanna see a poorly done B-movie that you and your friends can laugh at.
mark.waltz Alan Steel is the muscle bound gladiator who goes up against an evil queen after she refuses to stop the slaughter of innocent children being sacrificed to appease these underground walking rocks. While there are some interesting special effects and some fascinating action sequences (reminding me of the Indiana Jones movies), this is still one of those cheaply made gladiator movies that Peter Graves made fun of in the comedy movie "Airplane!"Certainly there are some tense moments, such as the exploration of the cave where the moon men allegedly live, and a scene where Hercules is placed in this giant knife filled contraption that is closing up on him. It's all about seeing Steel without his shirt on, and the knife contraption is a variation of what happened to the biblical hero Samson. I don't watch these movies very often, because they all seem to be of the same pattern. The dubbing is so bad that it appears that the actual Italian actors were speaking English phonetically while some unknown American actor or actress dubbed in the lines later. The sound is tinny, and a musical score in the background is inappropriate and annoying. The head of the Moon Man creatures is another one of those ridiculous looking monsters, and when the Queen's sister is made a sacrifice for the walking rocks, they all begin to look like a chorus line of unpainted Gumby's. As for the Evil Queen, the less said about her acting on screen and the dubber, the better. Still these movies are a lot of fun to watch if you're in the mood to laugh at something, and ultimately they are a good time filler that does not challenge the brain. Fortunately being in the public domain, these cells can be purchased cheaply, but I must warn you, some of the prints are truly weak.
Uriah43 Aliens from the Moon have landed near the kingdom of Samar and are terrorizing the people into sacrificing their children in order to appease them. Desperately searching for a way to stop this madness a man by the name of "Gladius" (Nando Tamberlani) appeals to "Hercules" (Alan Steel) to come to Samar and lead the people to victory against them. Unfortunately, the evil leader of Samar named "Queen Samara" (Jany Clair) has made a secret deal with the leader of the Moon Men, "Rudolphis" (Roberto Ceccacci) and she intends to stop Hercules at any cost. Now, as far as this movie was concerned I will just say that it had a good plot, adequate acting and some nice cinematography. Likewise, the dubbing from Italian to English was also quite good. However, the costumes for the Moon Men were pathetic and the overall film lacked passion. There was also one scene involving a dust storm that seemed to go on forever. In short, this wasn't a bad film by any means--but it also wasn't as good as it should have been. All things considered then I rate it as just slightly below average.
bkoganbing Hercules Against The Moon Men? The title says it all. And it's hardly a successful mixing of genres. The mythic demi-god strongman played here by Alan Steel is summoned by some folks in a small kingdom whose Queen played by Jany Clair is demanding child sacrifices. The kids go up on a mountain that is continually veiled in mist, but they never come back. Kind of like the Pied Piper without the flute. As for these aliens they're rock monsters who have a human queen who needs blood sacrifices to keep her comatose body alive, preferably the youngest blood possible. When the moon and planets are at a certain confluence, they're going to come down out of their mountain hideout and takeover. What's the science here, I'm not sure, I don't think the producers thought seriously on the subject. Hercules must have stopped them permanently, they didn't make an appearance when Armstrong and Aldrin paid the moon a visit. Though they did bring back some rocks.Careful they don't grow up to be monsters.
