Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

"Frisch gepresst" or "Freshly Squeezed" is a German 90-minute movie from 2012, so this one has its 5th anniversary this year. The director is Christine Hartmann and she is also one of the several writers working on this project. I must say I am not really familiar with her work, but I somewhat liked her Hanni/Nanni movie. Anyway, back to this one here. This is certainly among Hartmann's most known career works, perhaps the number one even. And this does not say anything positive about her career. But what would you expect when you hear about a film based on a Susanne Fröhlich novel with Diana Amft in the lead role. Let me say you get what you can expect. Utter garbage. I have not read Fröhlich's original work, so no idea if the core problem is there, but I think the film is a failure for several reasons. Amft proves once again that she has zero talent to be honest, regardless if we are talking about the comedic or dramatic moments. The rest of the cast isn't any better, but of course they also suffer from the script. It makes me sad to see actually talented actors like Groth (or maybe Melles too) appear in crap like this.It is the story of a young woman that becomes pregnant, but isn't entirely sure who the father is. The rest is stupid romance stuff, some pseudo drama, many jokes and punch lines that did not work out at all and of course the inevitable over-the-top happy ending. The protagonist is written in a way that the easily entertained can easily identify with her. No money, good heart (that's how they see themselves at least) and somewhat smart, but making some bad decisions. Still supposed to be very likable. And very attractive of course as the man fight each other physically for her affection. Oh yeah and she is quirky and a bit of a feminist of course too. How likable. How stupid I'd say. There is nothing likable about this character or performance, but honestly that's the reason why she fits in nicely with the men surrounding her in here. I can only say that this film was really really bad and it is the epitome of a romantic comedy (with some drama) starring Diana Amft, an actress who has appeared in dozens of productions without ever putting anything watchworthy on the screen. These 1.5 hours are definitely no exception. But you know who should be even more embarrassed: the ones who pay to see films and performances like this. I suggest you stay far away.

It tries to stay fresh and out of clichés, but it can't entirely do that. While it's nice to see "ordinary" people and their problems depicted. But even that has a sour taste, because while they do look ordinary, most of what they do cannot be called ordinary. You also get to see issues that actually aren't really problems or shouldn't be handled the way the are being handled in the movie. There are some other issues too (some weird acting choices amongst them, comedy does not always work, cardboard cut out side characters and some other things). There is always the issue with the ending. It's not only over dramatized to a point, where some might go "come one", but also more than just predictable. Which is all in all a shame, because while I listed some negatives, there are some refreshing things going on and you can feel how much fun the actors had doing this ...
