if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

Flake and Flames is Dirk Behlau and Jasper Bram's custom culture documentary. I've been interested in this project since the very beginning because of how it came advertised. A movie about custom. Culture. Now if you ask me, this ''culture'' is a mix of so many arts... Lowbrow art, choppers, hot rods, customs, low riders, rockabilly, pin up's, photographers... Pause. (catching a breath) As long as you are digging one of these arts, you are a custom culture freak. Sorry mate. And as long as you support and contribute to the culture in a way, any way, and not just exploit it, you are an active part of the circus. Flake and Flames is a must have for the real grease and wrench monkey, chopper guy, hot rodder, gear head, rockabilly fan. Iconic people of the scene, choppers, hot rods, great music; a great time. A great documentary everybody should have. It's a just released-already classic. End of story !

As "retro hotrod-kustom culture" has become a cool and hip fashion hyped thing these days ...most "followers"of the hype probably don't have a clue where it all started.... for those who don't know what the culture and lifestyle is about and want to take the effort to look further then the hype.."flakes and flames" is a must see ,as it digs deep into the roots of the kustom culture and lowbrow art scene. This documentary gives a clear view on what the scene and lifestyle is all about and where it originates from. The guys who made this documentary take viewers further and deeper into the roots of the scene then the usual superficial hype type of documentary.. the people who are featured and interviewed in this documentary can be named as "the godfathers" of the scene, that combined with fantastic editing and a perfect soundtrack ...gives you a perfect view on what the lifestyle is all about and what it stands for! ...buckle up,grease those hairs get a six-pack of beers in reach...and take the ride!!!! :-)
