A Disappointing Continuation

It's fun, it's light, [but] it has a hard time when its tries to get heavy.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

DESI BOYZ: a good entertainer with a backdrop of financial recession with a mix of emotions,,,,,the first half will make you laugh while the second half is filled with emotions which is good to watch john played his role well while Akshay moved like mercury in his character,,,Deepika is good enoughthe negative points of this movie is that it goes back in entertainment at few places the songs are not so good except for the title song and poor background musicSanjay Dutt plays a good comical roleMY WORD: go for it and refresh yourself

I honestly love comedy, even starting to appreciate the less subtle blend, but Desi Boyz? Sorry just didn't work. I mean it did have a great idea with a relevant theme that a lot of people would identify with, but here's the problem, Desi Boyz? Never lives up to it.The plot (where the bulk of the problems lie) was, by far, the worst thing about the movie. The plot can be summed up through the following words: broken, confusing, irrelevant, uninformed, and poorly written. There were several questions raised in the movie that were never answered or even dealt with for that matter. Like, there was this theme of "Recession" which apparently had something to do with the characters, but it was never explained where (or what) these characters were to begin with. The comedy consistently misses the mark by a huge margin. This movie was intended to be a comedy although it's shockingly unfunny despite an almost foolproof set of comic circumstances and actors. It tries to be funny and thoughtful and ends up being incredibly and offensively stupid and trite. If there are any redeeming qualities it is the performances of John Abraham and Akshay Kumar who put a lot of effort into their characters. By all means it was lovely to see the "Garam Masala" pair again but sadly they doesn't have much to work with.

This really is an abysmal film. The plot makes no sense, with John and Akshay playing male prostitutes who, we're told, don't have sex with their clients, although quite what they actually do to earn their money is never fully explained. (Why didn't the writers just make them strippers? Would they have been sued by the makers of The Full Monty?)Akshay is involved in a nonsense story with an annoying little kid and somehow ends up studying at Oxford University. John is having woman troubles with Deepika, whose performance here is so wooden it's laughable. Yes, she may look nice, but the woman has zero star quality or charisma. If you can get past the storyline, you will surely be shocked at the outright amateurishness of the film-making. The sound dubbing is appalling, the editing is sloppy and disjointed and the whole thing is shot without any kind of style or imagination. It also doesn't know what it wants to be, with Akshay and Deepika talking to the camera in early scenes, before this trick is apparently forgotten for the rest of the movie and the finale breaks out into typical Bollywood melodrama.I am genuinely amazed that anyone could rate this highly. I'm pretty sure a bunch of college kids could make a more competent film.
