Dorathen Better Late Then Never
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
shabzy_98 Typical Bollywood love triangle, goes good with the dialogue, full of innocence. One of my all time faves Divya Bharti looks beautiful especially in the Aisi Deewangi song. A film with the 90s touch of innocence in Bollywood, with music that's still a phenomenan.
andosonniamath I honestly NEVER thought this film would be SRK's debut film. I thought Dil Aashna Hai would've been his debut and Deewana would be his breakthrough. But then again, DAH was supposed to be his debut film until it delayed a few months but thank God this film was SRK's first released film otherwise DAH would've sucked for him. Ravi (Rishi Kapoor) is a very rich and popular singer who meets and falls in love with Kajal (Divya Bharti) a poor village girl who is a big fan of Ravi. They get married and Ravi's mother (Sushma Seth) gives them a grand welcome, much to the detest of his uncle Virendra Pratap Singh (Amrish Puri) and his son and Ravi's cousin Narender (Mohnish Behl). Virendra is greedy for Ravi's wealth and would do anything to get his dirty mitts on it, so he plans on killing his nephew via Narender and his plan went backfired as Ravi was thrown off a cliff while Narender was stabbed to death. Ravi's mom and Kajal flee to avoid Virendra's next attack to and here come Raja (Shahrukh khan) to come into Kajal's new life and falling in love with her. He starts stalking her, following her, writing her name on his arm and begging her mother-in-law him to marry her, who is unable to move on from her first marriage. But after the persuasion of her mother-in-law, she finally agrees and they got married. However, more problems show when Ravi makes his return and Kajal facing a dilemma on her future. Also Virendra still trying to accomplish his goal of owning the wealth. Now let me remind you that bigamy is NEVER an issue when it comes to having more one spouse in India. But there are some questions that lead to the issue. How long has it been since Ravi was presumed dead? and if it was short, then shouldn't the marriage continue with Ravi and Kajal? These types of questions still come in mind whenever i watch this movie. But then again, it is a Bollywood movie and sometimes questions are best not answered and enjoy the movie. This movie is a romantic and an action film with a lot of musical dance numbers which by the way are terrific in the movie. I just don't really like the plot of the movie because it just gets confusing in the end. And the fact that it might have a sequel will clearly get more confusing than this. Performance wise: I clearly did not understand why Mohnish Behl was in the film. Hell, why did he do villain roles like this? Be it Sabse Bada Khiladi, Aashiq Awara, and even this film. He is clearly wasted in roles like this. The only movies i liked him in was HSSH, HAHK, Baaghi and MPK. Otherwise he is wasted in the film. Amrish Puri was one of a kind in most of his movies, this example is why Puri was named "India's greatest villain" God rest his soul. Sushma Seth was okay but she can never pull a Nirupa Roy or a Raakhee in mother roles like this. Alok Nath was okay in a short role and so was Dalip Tahil. Now, the hero of the film, Rishi Kapoor. Seriously? You putted a chubby, 40-year old man (back in the day) to romance a teenage debut who hasn't even developed adulthood yet? Come on guys. And yet, his dance skills, action sequences, and dramatic scenes are literally just awful. The only thing i liked about him in the movie is his expressions and dialogue delivery. Otherwise, he needs to lose weight in a film like this. Divya Bharti was amazing on her debut. She was mesmerizing and her expressions, dance skills with fatty Kapoor, dramatic sequences and her role transition was terrific. I'm shocked she passed away at a young age though. She would've carried the legacy of Bollywood actresses like Kajol, Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi and become a successful actress. God rest her soul though. But here is one of the reasons why the movie was considered a blockbuster back in the day and the saving grace of the film, and that is the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan. This is how SRK became the KING of Bollywood and that is delivering one of the greatest performances and having the best debut possible. His expressions, his dialogues, and his emotions are considered the best and considered a legacy. Don't believe me? watch him carry this legacy in Baazigar, Darr, Anjaam, and the Don series. Basically, SRK saved the film onto becoming a disastrous confusion with his acting skills in play. i honestly THANK GOD Armaan Kohli was NOT in the film and SRK replaced him. His career was destroyed and him in the movie would make it the hugest flop possible. Kohli can never pull a role right. In fact, he should take some acting lessons from SRK and actually learn what it's like to be an actor. The other reason why it's considered a blockbuster was the music. I honestly love every song and every single one of them are my favourites. It's an album you cannot miss out. Nadeem-Shravan's second third awarded soundtrack won't disappoint you. I wish they can come back and make music like this again, otherwise I miss Nadeem-Shravan and their music. They need to come back and show other music directors who's boss (of course not A.R.Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) Overall, the plot is one aspect i do not like in the movie. Other than that, great music and watch the film for 3 of the greatest performances. Amrish Puri, Divya Bharati (God rest their souls), and above all, Shahrukh Khan!!
Ibuk Dewaana as a film goes through the usual clichés. Man and Woman fall in love and marry, husband is supposedly killed by a family friend who wants their family fortune, woman remarries and surprise surprise husband no.1 reappears. The movie is reminiscent of Yash Chopra's Chandni and countless others. Divya Bharti and Shah Rukh Khan give good performances. Amrish Puri as a villain goes through the motions and is nothing more than a standard bollywood villain The music by Nadeem Shravan is superb, all the songs were brilliant. My favourites are Sochenge tumhe pyar or Koyi na koyi chahiyye. Dewanna is an ordinary movie that goes through the motions.
HeadleyLamarr I finally got around to seeing this film. I knew that SRK was not lead billed but boy was the wait long and painful. Why any one in their right mind would have fallen for puff haired, no waistline, buck toothed Rishi Kapoor was completely mystifying. At first I thought maybe he was like an aging Elvis or something, but this man had no charisma, no personality, nothing. Yet the perky Divya falls for him and all is blissful - awful dance numbers with numerous girls in yellow all over the hill side and all.. I have given up hope that the movie will go anywhere, when BAM the pop star is gone, and things begin to look up. Divya looks way hotter in white than she did in the first half. Then the young Romeo (SRK) arrives on the scene and the story becomes much much more interesting. Hearts and minds are won over and a new love story unfolds. But the dead don't stay dead and we have to kill them yet again, it is Bollywood after all.I think this movie might be one right at the cusp of changing over in style from the terrible eighties into the nineties. They did one half to keep the eighties crowd in and the second half to ring in the nineties. And am I glad the eighties are truly gone! Watch it to see Divya Bharti in a creditable performance, too bad she is gone. Watch it to see SRK as a young man playing the deewaana (demented), the angry, the lovelorn - and all done very well. Amrish Puri does not disappoint either. All in all an 8 just to see SRK take an absolutely rubbishy film into the realm of entertainment.
