Reviews
BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
PiraBit if their story seems completely bonkers, almost like a feverish work of fiction, you ain't heard nothing yet.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
dano-13594 Great lineup- Wayne Brady, Seth green, Gilbert , Amy , Anthony , Jeff Ross and Carrie fisher i just don't think the roast wasn't a big enough star and there wasn't any jokes where the audience booed. I think if comedy central are going to make a roast they should find a big star who has had controversy so they have something to make fun of other than weight or personality
brchthethird ROSEANNE was one of many sitcoms I watched growing up, so the idea of roasting her seemed like a good one. She certainly has had a crazy/interesting life. Sadly, despite a mostly amazing dais, this roast didn't quite live up to what it could have been. Like the Donald Trump roast, they let her off easy. I mean, where's Lisa Lampanelli when you need her? Is she too big for these roasts now? Still, I was pleased with the talented people they picked. Anthony Jeselnik and Amy Schumer were my favorites out of the newer crop of comedians, while workhorse Jeff Ross was good as usual. Non-comedians Ellen Barkin and a hilariously self-deprecating Carrie Fisher also acquitted themselves nicely. Gilbert Gottfried? I didn't like that he was the last roaster to go before Roseanne herself took to the mic. I also only laughed at his material by sheer force of will? It was like Stockholm Syndrome, but with jokes. Yelling obscenities is more annoying than funny, in my opinion. Even though this is a comedy special, I won't spoil anything, but there was a touching moment where you could feel the love. And, as a comedian, Roseanne gave as good as she got, and better than Bob Saget, I might add. Still, despite not quite living up to its comedic potential, the roast of Roseanne Barr is certainly one of the better ones.
Michael_Elliott Comedy Central Roast of Roseanne (2012)*** 1/2 (out of 4)Ellen Barkin, Katey Sagal, Anthony Jeselnik, Amy Schumer, Carrie Fisher, Seth Green, Wayne Brady, Gilbert Gottfried and Jeffrey Ross are on hand with host Jane Lynch as they roast the one and only Roseanne. I've read a lot of reviews over the past few years stating that Comedy Central has ruined the entire roasting but I must be missing something because I think they've all been pretty funny. Now, this one here is certainly lacking the last couple guests but I think there are still some hilarious moments going on here and Roseanne seems to be having a blast with the material. I'm not sure what's up with Fisher as she seems rather offended by some of the jokes, mad about them or perhaps that's just the way she typically looks but it seems like you'd know what you were getting into. Her comedy routine was a tad bit uneven but for a non-comedian I thought she did a pretty good job. Barkin gets a lot of jokes thrown her way but she too seems to be having a blast and her routine was also pretty strong. Sagal was extremely effective with her bit and for the most part Lynch did a good job hosting. As with previous roasts, the best laughs come from the professionals with Jeselnik and Schumer really doing an outstanding job but it should come as no shock that it's Ross who really steals the show. Yes, there's even Penn State jokes. The surprise guest turned out to be Tom Arnold who delivers a pretty funny bit and even a little touching moment. Fans of Roseanne should enjoy the comedy here and if you're a fan of previous roasts then there's really no reason not to have fun here.
