daggersineyes This was a huge surprise to me! Beautifully directed and great acting all round this is as good as, in fact better, than many recent Hollywood horror efforts. It has a fairly simple plot but it works because of the excellent quality of every part of this movie's production. I can't say too much about it without giving away the story but I urge you to watch it. You will not be disappointed whether you prefer well-paced suspenseful build-ups or good old-fashioned gore you'll like this. It's not corny and doesn't have characters doing too many stupid things. The characters are believable and endearing. You don't want them to get hurt. You want them as friends! Most of their actions are understandable and there has been a lot of thought put into how each individual character would react to the situation they're in. No bland stereotypes here. I am hugely impressed and will be seeking out more work from Norway and this director (and some of the actors) as well. A well deserved 8 out of 10 from me.

WakenPayne Now I do like a good horror movie almost as much as the next seventeen year old, although I prefer when they are atmospheric other than in-your-face blood and gore. This movie tries to do both at the same time (but this time making the gore look realistic). It did sort of work but in my personal opinion this could have been better.Now, the plot. Five friends go on a skiing trip. They decide to ski in mountains. Eventually one breaks his leg. They take him to a very eerie looking hotel (of which later they find was closed 30 years ago) and spend the night. Then one by one they get killed by a man armed with a pick axe.I did like this movie. Mainly because I felt that they were trying to make a decent movie instead of just filming something generic to make more money. It was at times very suspenseful, but somehow the blood and gore almost kills it (No PUN intended). As a warning, the end credits song is in bad taste to what we have seen for the past hour and a half.So is this a decent watch? Yes it is. Just don't expect much when comparing it to horror classics. Although, sadly - this is one of the better horror movies of the past 13 years.

wvisser-leusden 'Fritt vilt', or 'cold prey' does to you what a horror movie is supposed to do: it glues you on your seat from start to finish.This film doesn't start as a horror story, though. As usual, the horror only comes in when 'Fritt vilt' is well on its way. From that moment on it takes over completely.Those who are familiar Stanley Kubrick's 'Shining' from 1980 cannot escape recognizing some of its elements in 'Fritt vilt'. The horror man using an ax, for one thing. Or its setting in a deserted hotel, isolated by harsh winter conditions. A tough woman battling the horror man, and even the use of hotel room number 237.Lending from Kubrick clearly benefits this Norwegian film. Add to that a competent acting & shooting, as well as a special bonus: an alternative trailer, made on the song of a punk-rock band. It works well with the mood of 'Fritt vilt'.

Nitzan Havoc Lucky for me for being a Horror freak, as it has really helped me get over my phobia of foreign cinema. Beforehand I hadn't been able to get over the language barrier. This has been my first taste of Norwegian Horror, and I must say I liked it!Frit Vilt is a classic Slasher with a fairly common background story - youngsters go on ski vacation (to a far and desolate place, obviously), one of them gets injured, they find an "abandoned" cabin and use it for shelter, enter Slasher, let there be blood. No points for originality. Also, one of the cheapest cheats were used (can't call for help on account of cells having no signals, as according to most of the Horror genre there is no place in the world with cellular reception, and that always lowers a film's level for me.However, I was pretty impressed with how director Uthaug managed to take an unoriginal story and an unoriginal sub-genre, and still make a pretty decent film! The characters are interesting in their own unoriginal way, the Slasher was pretty neat, and the soundtrack was awesome! The Nords always did know their music!All in all, the Slasher sub-genre really isn't one of my favorites, as it has very little to show after we've seen it all in the classics (Friday the 13th and such). And still, I found myself really enjoying the film. Being a Slasher film made the road pretty obvious, and I still found the way the characters walked it to be interesting. After the many Slashers already done, it's not easy at all to make a good one, and Frit Vilt is a good one! Could have used a nice twist though. Looking forward to the sequel!
