Not even bad in a good way

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

The artwork for this film made me interested. I mean here we have a picture of not just famed boxing legend Mike Tyson to look at but action star Steven Segal as well. A movie with the pair in it? Potentially facing off against one another? Sign me up!
The movie arrives, I pop it in the machine and low and behold within the first 20 minutes or so the clash takes place. And...that's about it. A few minutes of the two going at it mano a mano and then we're left with the rest of the movie to deal with. And it's bad. Really bad.I went back after watching about half of the film and read some reviews others had posted elsewhere. Had I done so prior to starting the film I might never have watched it. Everything stated in those reviews ended up being dead on.The film has an extremely convoluted plot going here. It takes place in some small African country in the middle of trying to figure out which cell phone company to handle the needs of that country. Yes, it's like a movie about ATT and Verizon battling it out with as much excitement as that brings to mind. At the same time Tyson is the last member of his tribe trying to take over the country. Segal is a bar owning dealer of weapons and warriors. Both have perhaps the least amount of screen time among the main cast members. I could go into the different factions trying to this contract that comes down to a Chinese group and a French one but honestly their tech talk became so boring that I found myself just trying to stay awake and watch the movie. On top of that they use of subtitles for foreign films is nothing new to me and I normally have no problem with it. But in this case the dialogue was so fast and the subtitles so miniature that I had to literally sit a few feet from the screen just to read them. On the plus side the film is very well shot and edited. Kudos to those involved on that end. And the promised though short lived fight between Tyson and Segal was fun to watch if over the top. Punching through pillars, kicking tables in half and nearly missing one another throughout the fight was outrageous fun. But other than that the movie fell flat. I honestly can't recommend this movie. I mean if it shows up on cable or if you have a service that shows it sure, watch it for that fight sequence. But then find something more interesting to do like clean out belly button lint.

So, I normally don't like to give out spoilers here. I try my best not to, but I need to tell you that the best part of the movie happens in the first fifteen minutes. You see the poster of the film and you see Seagal and Tyson putting up their dukes and your thinking "Wow! who would have thought I wanted to see that so badly?"It was good, surprisingly good. Mike Tyson, who looked like he got into shape for this flick, represented for boxing, which rarely gets a chance to shine in action cinema as a fighting style (You should see a movie called Riot with Sugar Ray Lenard), and sense it's been like 25 years since Steven Seagal has lifted his fat leg up in the air it feels like an even match. Chinese-style action (with american fast cuts), and I must admit, it was was worth that ticket price. But once it's over I could have literally left the theater. The film has a few good action segments. Some including Iron Mike, whose insertion in the movie made it feel like he was just there to put his face on the poster (Which is true, even more so for Seagal whose 15 mins in the film also included the battle with Iron Mike).Seem like an interesting story as well. From the closing text it was a true story about a a Chinese telecommunication company in a biting war with another company that's trying so hard to keep their monopoly that they are willing to start a war between two African nations on the brink of it. I like the fact that China seems to be making a few movies in Africa to reflect the current culture merge, and I liked how the movie explored Chinese patriotism, but for a movie starring Steven Seagal and Mike Tyson (who are on the poster), you got to be prepared for how little action is in the movie and how much it's about a political situation. Good trick getting me to see the movie, but the only reason why I came ended so fast and I was just bored with what could have been a good movie otherwise.

It's really really bad. Turn off the TV in the middle of the movie bad.
They got my attention with Tyson vs Seagal match, but they're in such a minor roles.
Tyson looked like CGI and Seagal looked like a human wearing mask of Steven Seagal. They had a fight in first half an hour (maybe again later but i could not watch).I loved the idea of boxer vs aikido, but the execution was awful.
Don't spend your money on it.
