Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

Sandeep Gupta Bobby Jasoos. Vidya Balan sparkles as ever but everything else is so normal. As Bobby she is residing in the heart of Hyderabad and wants to a be a detective but such dreamy things never come easy. Movie scores in setting up the messy atmosphere of Hyderabad and many small struggles that Bobby faces. First half raises your curiosity as she deals with her big money client and when she consistently struggles to find her father's acceptance for her unusual job because she is a girl. Side characters initially help making things interesting but as time moves on they convert into unnecessary distractions from the main plot.Second half disappoints as things get more messy and too much time is spent on distractions. The detective movie starts wandering sometimes as a love story or family drama. Low production values becomes more visible especially in songs. The dream song is totally out of the place. And if it wasn't enough, the underwhelming climax leaves you unsatisfied at the end.I am going with not bad 6 out of 10 for Bobby Jasoos. It is recommended to watch under the comfort of home to enjoy Vidya Balan's strong performance.

binducherungath Bobby Jasoos, a film by Samar Shaikh, could have been another Vidya Balan hit with the very novel concept of a female detective, a very unconventional profession for a female to be in, but something is amiss which hasn't worked in its favour. Post 'The Dirty Picture' and 'Kahaani', Vidya Balan has set her own benchmarking level of performance quite high. Her 'Ghanchakkar' was super flop, and 'Shaadi ke Side Effects' could do only decent business. Bobby Jasoos probably faltered as far as the script is concerned; otherwise, its concept had all the elements of another blockbuster in Vidya's kitty. But yes, it is a movie, which prompts us to pursue our dreams irrespective of challenges. Bilkis Ahmed aka Bobby (Vidya Balan) is so passionate about proving her mettle as a detective against the wishes of her family. Only her mother Zebo (Supriya Pathak) supports her whereas father (Rajendra Gupta) and others at home are dead against her detective job. Her father has a conservative approach and he feels that the house shall not be run with the girl's earning. He also feels that Bobby is a disgrace to the family due to her profession. Zebo does bring smile to our face while she tries to defend Bobby and her detective activities.Bobby keeps trying her luck at G-Force detective agency in spite of facing rejections from the agency again and again. She starts her own detective agency after challenging the agency. She handles insipid cases like worried parents, suspicious spouses etc. A tea shop person Munna (Aakash Dahiya) does help her to get clients. She dons variety of looks viz. that of a beggar, palmist, bangle-seller, astrologer, peon, a TV producer etc. as part of her solving cases effortlessly. She approaches every case on the basis of her intuition and gut feeling and chooses strange paths to crack the same. Her familiarity with the streets of Mughalpura Mohalla of old Hyderabad fetches her a strange case from Anees Khan (Kiran Kumar) to find out two missing young girls with strange birthmarks, followed by search for a guy as well. She is paid hefty amount. Anees just wants Bobby to do her job without raising any question about his motive in looking out for these missing people. Bobby goes ahead following her mind and heart, but then, she starts doubting the motive of Anees behind his search for the girls. The story moves ahead from there. Indeed, suspense is maintained till the very end. Shetty (Prasad Barve), Munna, Sohail (Tejas Mahajan) act as perfect aides of Bobby Jasoos. They do add lot of comic elements to the plot. Ali Fazal as a TV anchor Tassavur Shaikh has given a very sweet performance. He is ambitious and does not want to settle down with girls of Mughalpura. And to escape from the marriage proposals brought to him by his father (Vinay Varma), he takes the help from Bobby to explore some stories about them so that he could conveniently deny those proposals. It is interesting to see Bobby and Tassavur together and how their relationship goes to the next level. There is a nice scene, where Bobby is guiding Tassavur over speaker/earphone set to speak to his father in regard to his disapproval to marry Bobby. Bobby's sister Noor (Benaf Dadachandji), Kausar Khaala (Tanvi Azmi) and Zarina Wahab as Afreen's (Afreen is Lala's love interest) Ammi have also added value to the movie through their presence. What events unfold in the lives of Bobby Jasoos? Lala (Arjan Bajwa) as a local gunda plays a significant part in the movie and what is that? Does Ali and Bobby come together? What is the motive of Anees Khan? How does Bobby explore the same? Is Bobby able to win her father's approval and love?Cinematographer Vishal Sinha has captured the hustle-bustle of Hyderabad, Charminar, the very aroma of Biriyani also very nicely. Hyderabad is reflected well through Bobby's accent. Vidya has really worked upon her Hyderabadi accent.

Ankur Srivastava I went to watch this movie today and I enjoyed it. Its a light hearted movie which is a good diversion from the regular love stories which are manufactured every other week.The movie revolves around how the a middle class girl is trying to make a mark for her and break out of the stereo mindset which surrounds the general public.The star cast is great especially the lead actors. Its always good to watch Vidya Balan perform on big screen. She never disappoints.The music is also nice with just a couple of nice songs.I would recommend this movie which has elements to make you laugh and cry.

kumar-u-naresh Bobby Jasoos: Try visualizing a cricketer, a politician, an entrepreneur, a head of some MNC. Is the first image that pops into your mind on reading these jobs, ever of a woman? Not really…right? At the cost of sounding a sexist to some, the fact of the matter today is, at least in our beloved motherland if not globally, the idea that of a woman wanting to life her dreams is still not hugely accepted. Yes, they work now. But if a CEO of a multinational beverage manufacturer goes on record to say that women do not get to have it all, it is something to pay heed to. The fact of the matter is that no matter how much women may claim to be equal to men, the world does not allow them to play on a levelled field. Bobby Jasoos, if not entirely, is a partial reflection on the conventions in which the women of today's society are, for the lack of a better word, governed. Do this…don't do that…and so on…Bobby Jasoos is the story of Bilkis aka Bobby, an aspirational detective, living in the by lanes of Hyderabad's Chaar-minaar area, who fancies watching CID (yes the one where ACP Pradyuman has not been promoted for over a decade and a half). Her family, due to her choice of career, is always at loggerheads with her; a father with a non- functional relationship, a sister who constantly undermines her capabilities, an aunt who keeps worrying that the other girls of the house will not get married, and a mother who understands her. One fine day, her dream of having her own case becomes a reality when a mysterious man offers her a case to find someone with the help of just a name and a birthmark. Determined to make a career of her own and start her own agency, Bobby starts her journey into solving the case. But somewhere down the line, she sees that there is something wrong about the case and the man who offered it to her. The film however is not entirely about the case. It is also about her struggles on the domestic front which she has to constantly overcome to fulfil her aspirations. Add to this, a friend who wants to escape the shackles of matrimony and in a foolish move, gets engaged to Bobby. This in its entirety is what can be revealed without sharing spoilers. In essence, detective films have a challenge to keep the story engrossing because there is not much of a visual narration in films like this. The film like was Sherlock Holmes (the Downey Jr. and Law film and not the Cumberbatch and Freeman series) minus the idiosyncrasies of Sherlock. Instead, Sherlock was replaced with a goody two shoes girl who hops skips and jumps into different costumes for the audience's amazement. Sadly, it does not amaze us enough. Barring maybe a couple of scenes (one where Bobby's fiancé defends her career aspiration in front of his father and the other one where Bobby tells her father that she understands his predicament and worry) which thankfully lacked the over-the-top Bollywood melodrama and were well written, the story's direction lacked excitement and was quite pale. Direction: Debutant director Samar Shaikh makes a start with an unconventional subject for most established directors. He gets a few things correctly. His understanding of art direction helped him get the setting and the locales right. The flow of the story, however, was a little lackluster. Nothing spectacular to showcase here.Performances: This film, like most of her recent ones, are all about Vidya Balan. She dominates the entire film and singlehandedly carries the film on her shoulders. The supporting cast was effective too. The hyderabadi accent and manner of speaking was not. She seemed nothing different from her usual self. A risk of monotony that all good actors like Irrfan Khan and KK Menon have started to suffer from. Hope to see her do something different.Overall: I was not impressed. My rating, 2.5 stars out of 5.
