Aedonerre I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
Janis One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.
fertilecelluloid There is SOMETHING appealing about this flick. Perhaps it's the overall tone or maybe the fact that all the rapist's victims are mothers. Such single-minded focus tends to up the likeability factor for me because it tells me the director has a philosophy.Set in Mainland China, a rapist is abusing the local ladies while an inept constabulary closes in on him.One attack, where he leaps on a woman from a tree, shows a reasonable degree of cinematic showmanship and and the film's unrelenting nature keeps it interesting. But the film is not well made and the performances are lacklustre.Try DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS instead if you want real perversion.
Eegah Guy Made during the short vogue in Hong Kong for gruesome true-crime films, this is a pale imitation of the film that most others aspire to, THE UNTOLD STORY. We meet the necrophile rapist-killer in jail as we get long flashbacks to his various crimes and problems dealing with the female sex. He's shy, he's nerdy, he's got a little hammer he's going to kill with. What's disturbing about his crimes is that he seems to target mothers with small children. This film doesn't have the weird mix of horror and oddball humor that THE UNTOLD STORY had and is therefore rather ordinary within the ranks of Hong Kong Category III cinema. Not very bloody and not too outrageous either considering the subject matter.
