The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Great movie. Not sure what people expected but I found it highly entertaining.

Watching it is like watching the spectacle of a class clown at their best: you laugh at their jokes, instigate their defiance, and "ooooh" when they get in trouble.

I don't think the plot was great or really the writing or acting. But it was telling a hard story, that doesn't have much of a plot in real life. I was not in Iraq but I was in Afghanistan in 01-02. I seen that for the most part no the insurgents/Al-Qs/Fedys or what have you couldn't aim. Not saying that all of them sucked but we started joking about purple hearts, (medal for getting wounded in action) calling them Al-Q marksman ship awards. I watched a mortar attack from less than 400m that flew over the heads of everyone that was the target and land 100m behind us. Most of you who are gripeing about the movie, have never really seen a war, you have never seen how people act in a war. This was as good as I expect out of someone who was never there. But you all are also the same people who think Cloverfield is a good movie.

I want my $1.83 rental fee back. However ....I write novels, I've worked on productions. Anyone involved in writing or production can learn from this disaster.First, the palm trees. Not only are the palms fake, but the crew uses the same fake palms in scene after scene.Second, the locations. Travel the Middle East, study the cinder block construction, the roads, the curbs, the streetlights, the power poles. Take thousands of photos. A better idea would be to stage the action in the night. In this way, a production crew could create a more realistic background for the action.Third, interview veterans of Iraq. How often did they actually see an enemy? In this production, insurgents attack en masse every other minute. All the field details: the soldiers standing in groups to deliver dramatic dialog, walking and talking in the middle of the road, taking cover behind bushes? behind the glass and sheet metal of a car? A 7.62mmComBloc slug will punch through all the steel of a car and kill you. And the truck taking repeated hits from RPG's? The RPG's exploding in a ball of rising fire? Do the Iraqis load their RPG's with gasoline? And taking a wounded American to an Iraqi hospital? Who thought of that stupidity? Medevac in Iraq is 15 minutes from wound to surgery. Iraqis don't even have disposable needles. They don't have sutures. They don't have antibiotics. And a knife-fight to the death with an assault force of Iraqis? They hear the Americans firing pistols, then go silent? 'Oh, they're out of ammunition, let's let them knife us.' And after the climatic knife-fight, the soldiers take to the road with empty weapons? Who financed this trash? Send me money. I'll buy the stories of veterans, put together a righteous action-adventure drama.ghfrost google that name

I just watched "American Soldiers" and was almost blown away like a lot of people in the film. Iraq is a deadly snake pit where you can't tell enemy from friend and the soldiers are constantly being attacked or attacking. This film took me there and convinced me this is as close as I want to get to it. If I had a child there on either side I would be sick. Lots of extreme closeups and plenty of action, quickly cut. Sydney Furie is a great director--his "The Ipcress File" with Michael Caine is one of my favorites. What I liked most is it has a liberal slant. This war sucks (like all wars really--what will it take for all of us to "get along"). The soldiers realize that the reasons for the war are bogus: WMDs, 9/11, spreading democracy. It's all BS and the soldiers realize that but fight for the buddies they love, not the politics. But at least the politics are given air. Made by Canadians who can't be intimidated by our President and his Vice, this film tells it like it is. I didn't think this story would ever be told truthfully but here it is. This is entertainment that enlightens. Thank God.

I can't believe this director is still making movies. I mean, look at the movies he's made, they're almost all rated less than 4 stars. I wish there was a negative rating here so I could give it at least a -5 for such a terrible movie. The acting is completely and extremely lame. The soldiers look like they have never seen and/or touched a gun before, and it scares me. Think about it, those guys are the people who are supposed to protect our country and they can't even shoot straight. My 5 year old cousin can even shoot better that (with a toy gun of course.) It makes me wonder why the hell I wasted 2 hour to watch this stupid movie. I guess I've lost some IQ after watching it.
