Reviews
TrueJoshNight Truly Dreadful Film
Matialth Good concept, poorly executed.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Lidia Draper Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.
Robert Clarke Very slow "thriller" about a sea scavenger (Bratt) who along with his seemingly naive girlfriend finds the wreck of a luxury yacht and raids it for the very sort after contents. Unfortunately he is tracked down by another islands-man (Assante) and his "femme fatale" wife who demand a share of the profits, and then its all a question of trust - or lack of it. Based on a story by Ernest Hemmingway, there really doesn't seem to be enough to keep you interested for the best part of an hour and forty mins, all in all though its worth a look but certainly not one to watch over and over and the "twist" at the end is predictable, yet doesn't really add up.Bratt is quite good and Avital is cute - while the stunning scenery is most definitely a plus point.
jeroenberndsen1 It would be a waste of my time to talk very long about this movie and i think a waste of yours too.barely one hundred votes to this movie and i can figure why. personally I just wanted to see what others think about this movie after a wasted evening on this pic.Slow, stereotype actors (sorry bratt and assante), cliches, boring... I just rated it 5/10 but.... even that is too high!4/10
rtd_u_4_utter_underappreciation ...and an incredibly bad one, as well. i've never read hemingway, so i don't know weather this is faithful or whatever, but i couldn't get on the mood.benjamin bratt bouncing around as the macho 'hero' is ridiculously poor.this man shouldn't be allowed to pretend being an actor. you live in denial, benji! armand assante and simone-elise girard do a better job, but there was nothing they could've done to save this miserable excuse for a movie. and, realistically, they are also quite mediocre actors, they just seem fine in this one considering the level of competition.the director tries to be all clever twisting and turning the events and trying to create a paranoid feel, but hey, when you can't do it, you just can't! the plot in it's childisness and predictability is so stupid it's not even funny. i suggest considering going back to your day job. (i had a hard time not to curse here)the studio must be happy to see the crew spend all the money having a nice little holiday somewhere in caribia, as the only thing i saw money spent on was the camera filter that made the movie look more expensive than it actually was. the jazzy music is annoying and unfitting, aand naturally the dialogue is on a 'me tarzan, you jane'-level.if you, after wathing 'after the storm' and 'wild things' still say mamet's movies suck i can't help you. you need serious treatment.1/10
gazineo-1 Tiresome and poor adaptation of a Hemingway novel puts a sea adventurer (Bratt) in a search for money and gold stored in a wrecked luxurious yacht. He teams up with another sea scavenger (Assante), a sweet and aparently näive young woman (Avital)and the "femme fatale" Janine (Girard). The movie is slow until the end and even the twist at the ending does not save the peasant treatment gives by the director. Bratt made a good work.I give this a 4 (four).
