Twilightfa Watch something else. There are very few redeeming qualities to this film.
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
mraculeated The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Mery S Tokyo Ghoul is normally mentioned among the most interesting anime series of the past few years. However, it didn't live up to my expectations as I found it weak in many aspects. To start with I think the main problem is the characters, there are many series where the plot may not be good but the characters make it totally worthy but this wasn't the case. All the characters fit an anime stereotype which wouldn't be bad per se but there isn't enough background information nor character development. Most of them are passive characters who are just there doing nothing so I insist, it is very difficult to feel any sympathy towards them. The protagonist happens to be the worst of all in that sense so having him as the protagonist and no strong secondary characters makes it quite tedious to follow the series. The plot was definitely a good start, quite appealing to fans of the genre. We have world with cannibals that need to eat people to survive but that does not mean they are evil. If you are looking for blood, drama or philosophy, this is not your show. It could have been but there are barely fights, there is no place for drama when characters are that dull and there are a few times when you can actually reflect upon a deeper meaning. Moreover, it's not that the show in general doesn't fulfil any of the expected purposes but the episodes do not stand alone either way. What was good for sure was the music and the design and this is something that can be observed more clearly at the end of the series which is the best part. And yet again, the ending seemed rushed and the characters hadn't grown enough on me to watch the second season.
CZelden This is a story about a boy who is changed into something he fears. He then has to learn how to live on the border between what he is used to and what he fears. The show is tremendously violent and gory, but not extraordinarily so in it's genre. It kind of falls into the Supersayan-problem of ever more powerful enemies that can only be defeated by the main character after becoming stronger, but it varies enough (more so in the second season than the first). Despite the characters feeling all over the place in the first few episodes, there is a point to that and after two seasons I actually quite like how the character arcs turned out. What makes this story for me is it's underlying themes. It's about the big subjects of life and death and love and hate, but it does so in a different way than I am used to. The show seems to ask by showing murder after murder, battle after battle, slaughter after slaughter: isn't this pointless? Every time it sets a character up to be violently taken apart it makes a point to say that that character had value and now he or she is no more. It makes the point of the show, despite it's extreme violence one of pacifism. It is a tremendously depressing watch, but definitely something I haven't seen before and something I don't know if I should recommend. Watch this if: a. you like violent anime and just want to see the pictures, because it is well made and not focus on the plot or b. you like feeling like crap after binging on short episode after short episode.PS I don't like the title songs, but I am sure many people disagree.
waylonn Its a brilliant take on Sui ishida's manga Tokyo ghoul, let's start with negatives first.it would have been better if they made it longer than 13 episodes, because I felt that it was a bit rushed, the first episode was brilliantly done and left you wanting more, but the next 4 episodes were a tad bit slow paced.I would really loved the added the gore and violence that the manga has.The Positives the art and animation is brilliantly done, the voice acting is absolutely brilliant,it actually makes you feel the despair and anguish that kaneki goes through in certain parts(not giving spoilers).but by far the best thing about this series is the soundtracks,it is absolutely superb,in the story and in the opening, normally I just skip the opening and go straight to watching the episode but "UNRAVEL"by TK kept me hooked, heck I even re-winded to listen the opening for the soundtrack over and over again. This anime is really well done I enjoyed the story very much and I hope this review helped.
seraphin01 Well I don't get much of the reviews on this anime here..I just finished watching both season.. while season 1 would have been more than enough with some study over the dominant specie and such.. nothing really original, seen that theme for instance in Chronicle (the movie).. but yeah why not? Graphic wise it's not bad, some will like, some like me will find it pretty generic, not the issue at hand Problem comes from the so called character development that so many here seem to praise.. it's typical from Japanese stories, the wuss that turns all badass overpowered for god knows what reason in matter of hours or days, same goes for the bad ass girl turning into a cry baby if to some it sounds like character development, to me it looks like a convenient switch to serve a so called plot purpose which at the end of season 2 still concern me...As usual in anime we get those "heroic" moments which look SO out of style, so unrealistic to the limit that it just kicks your attention out of it and just wish the episode will end up faster to get over it.Also we have those "mysterious" things that are supposed to make you go wooah, so COOL and stuff.. well it doesn't, I might grow too old for those things, cool poses, cool this cool that.. is NOT cool So while the first episodes of first season might look like some dark anime it's imply ISN'T, it's just the polish on a bland anime with random super power, some are totally useless gun fodder and some completely OP.. you expect that in anime like one piece or games like dynasty warriors, not in an anime that's supposed to be adult like and serious Soooo.. well am done with season 2, am not gonna bother checking if there is a third coming though there probably will be, since they added some "mysterious random white haired guy" at the end, some "shocking revelation totally not predictable" and so on..if you want dark and gore go for Attack on Titans, if you want "dark" without the gore go for Full metal alchemist, if you need more gore go for terraformars, but I strongly advice you to stay away from this random anime that is tokyo ghoul
