    Lawbolisted Powerful
Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
Jonah Abbott There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.
WakenPayne First of all a little history. Comedic actresses Gina Riley and Jane Turner started out on the sketch comedy team The D-Generation. The comedy was sketchy but they were gaining some kind of identity. Then the show Fast Forward was made. That one was funny but once it gets to the political humour then it all becomes boring. Later these 2 actresses got their money together to film a comedy about lower-middle-class life and It doesn't really work in my opinion. The characters range from 2 different types. They're over-the-top losers, or they're bland. Kath and her husband Kel are pretty much losers that seem to be in love and they do loser-ish things. Kim on the other hand plays a character that quite a few sitcoms think seem to work but I have yet to see that happen - the vain girl who sees herself as a supermodel or something when in reality they're anything but. Brett is just bland and (I guess) seems to be Kim's voice of reason. Sharon is basically an overweight bland girl who plays sport and gets a new injury every episode while the previous one seems to disappear.Basically my one beef with the show is that these characters aren't funny. I guess the idea was to show society in a way that can be laughed at. If that was the idea then I guess the people who will like the show are the ones who know people like this. But the humour then is a little bit off. Kim is told that she's not attractive very few times and could have leaded to a few laughs if it was done more. Most of the time all she does is argue and then sulk about how she hasn't gotten everything she wanted. Kath and Kel I guess are supposed to be laughed at for how pathetic they are and how they wear daggy clothes and other such things. This could be funny for you but - it isn't for me.So in all honesty I can see why this was at a time Australia's most popular show. What people were seeing was a social satire on either themselves or the people they have interacted with. At the end of the day this show solely relies on your taste in humour. So I can see why people like it and other people don't. In my case however, I don't like it.
jcurrie58 I'm completed addicted to this show and am only sorry it has ended its run here in the UK. I'm not Australian so maybe can't recognize all of the cultural points, but still find it amusing. It's not laugh out loud stuff, but I imagine that Australians can recognize the satirical observations more than anyone. I love the ever optimistic Kath and her dreadful wardrobe and the mind-bogglingly selfish Kim.What I can't understand is, why are the Americans making their own version and not screening the original? Is it the accents? Are Americans not capable of understanding any accents other than their own? As Kath says, "look at May, Kim, look at May".
djuby Fell in love with this hilarious show when it aired on Showcase in Canada. Does anyone know if it is available on DVD in North America? Or perhaps when it might become available. Great characters - reminds me of early French and Saunders. The comedy is also quite in tune with Canadian humour - making fun mostly of ourselves before taking a jab at others. The character of Sharon is perhaps one of the saddest, and at the same time, funniest characters ever written. Her constant search for love, or simply companionship is perfectly balanced with her "sporting prowess" and love of Irish dancing. "Look at me please, look at me, LOOK AT ME!" has become a popular chant around our office. Great show!
Samual Tompson As an international journilist I am increasingly interested with television shows that represent Australian society. I have always wondered to what extent your typical stereotype, bloke and sheila really exist in our everyday life. Previously i had never come across a show quite like Kath and Kim. And although i am not proud to admit it, it has become evident to me that the Kath and Kim stereotype is a very realistic representation of the majority of Australians! What makes Kath and Kim so funny is in fact the irony in the show. Who can honestly say that they don't know a neigbour, auntie or a friend who don't share some of kath and kim characteristics. The situation they are in is very common for typical aussies, living in the suburbs. How many of us are obsessed about being trim, are in disfunctional relationships are chain smokers. Even the bad fashion sense, cheap slang and horribly unromatic attempts to win our lovers reflect on our unique society and are exclusivley Australian ( even if we don't like to admit it!) Kath and Kim is a reality check for us australians showing us how we really are. It is my impression Kath and Kim best represents the reality of australian life, whether we like it or not.
