I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.

I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.

Part National Treasure, part Titanic, Whisper Island is a very nice and charming fantasy about both a real treasure that two kids search for on an island in the middle of a lake in red state America and another more valuable treasure that a woman takes the full span of her life to find. Rebecca Hooper and her maiden aunt Reb Fleming are about to have their ranch taken from them as they owe a lot in back taxes. They write to another relative in Chicago, but instead get his teenage son Austin Archer instead who informs them that his father is deceased and he sure didn't leave any kind of money to help them out.Reb Fleming is one of those slightly addled aunts, but don't let her fool you she's had a most interesting life and it's fulfillment comes at the very end.All that's left is that legendary treasure where Archer and Hooper's daughter Rose Dalton take up the hunt. We also see in flashback Fleming's connection to the treasure and a romance of sorts she had with a mysterious stranger Ryan Wood. I enjoyed this very much and recommend it to family audiences. Just think about Rose in Titanic and it will all be clear.
