Reviews
Inclubabu Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Erica Derrick By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Lachlan Coulson This is a gorgeous movie made by a gorgeous spirit.
SlyGuy21 1st Match: Ultimo Dragon vs Rey Mysterio. A good match to start the show, as is expected with a Mysterio match. Interesting how they didn't have Mike Tenay on commentary to help call this. Good back and forth stuff, with the crazy cruiserweight moves that the crowd loves. Rating: 4/52nd Match: Chris Jericho vs Nick Patrick. Jericho has one hand tied behind his back, just in case you thought Nick Patrick was actually able of beating him before. A simple squash match that's watchable, if a little long at 8 minutes. Rating: 3/53rd Match: Big Show vs Jeff Jarrett. The only thing this has going for it is that Sting shows up with his new "Crow" persona and screws Jarrett out of a victory. I'm fine with Jarrett losing though, because I legit don't like him. Short match, so it's watchable. Rating: 3/54th Match: Harlem Heat vs The Amazing French-Canadians. No idea who the Canadians are, and the match is just kind of there. A match that solely exists to fill time, aside from a crazy spot at the end with the ring steps and a table, there's nothing to this. Rating: 2.5/55th Match: Psychosis vs Dean Malenko, WCW Cruiserweight Championship. A little slow for a cruiserweight match, probably because this is the first meeting between the two. There's some good stuff for the second half, but the first half is all Malenko and his technical skill. This could work, but Psychosis has no offense, so it's pretty slow. An alright match, if the pairing was a little off at first. Rating: 3.5/56th Match: The Outsiders vs The Nasty Boys vs The Faces of Fear, Triangle Tag match for the WCW Tag Team Championships. A better match than the last time they tried this. The Nastys Boys and Faces of Fear have good offense here, so it makes the match a little more believable. Hall and Nash win by cheating of course, but they actually put some work in beforehand, so it doesn't come off as an easy win. I guess it did a good job of showing off the kind of competition the NWO would have. Rating: 3.5/57th Match: 60-Man World War 3 match. the winner of this cluster gets a shot at Hogan's belt. Time for the highlights. The match is insanely hard to follow for the first half, as you'd expect. The final five are Luger, Big Show, Hall, Nash, and X-Pac. I guess this is the best I've seen Luger, even if he doesn't win. So with Big show winning, I'm sure he and Hogan'll have a brutal match that won't be rigged at all. That's what I'd like to think, but I get the feeling that I'm wrong. The match is entertaining, if a cluster, and I liked the ending a little better than the one last year, so it's acceptable I suppose. Rating: 3/5Final Rating: 6 out of 10. Better than the one they did last year, but only for the undercard. WCW has still had a collectively good year compared to when they started, and if you're able to follow the main event, then you might get more out of it than I did.R.I.P. Chris Benoit&R.I.P. callanvass Live from Norfolk, VirginiaAttendance: 10,314Your hosts are Tony Schiavone, Dusty Rhodes & Bobby Heenan8 Cruiserweight ChampionshipsThe Ultimo Dragon (C) (W/Sonny Onoo) Vs Rey Mysterio Jr.The Ultimo Dragon wins. Holy crap! What a match! These two literally pulled out everything but the kitchen sink in this match. Mysterio looked like a world beater for kicking out of all the moves that he did and loses nothing in the loss. If you love cruiserweight action, you'll love this.****1/2One Armed Tied Behind My Back MatchChris Jericho (W/Teddy Long) Vs Nick PatrickJericho wins with a superkick. This was very silly and pointless, but it could have been a LOT worse than it was. Nick Patrick is a natural buffoon that you love to hate. Seeing him get his ass kicked was kinda fun. I highly doubt Jericho has this on his resume, though. Not Rated.Next, is an interview with Ric Flair. He praises some WCW wrestlers and says the nWo will perish when he returns. Jeff Jarrett Vs The GiantSting comes out and drops Jarrett with the Scorpion Deathdrop. The Giant follows that up with a chokeslam to get the win. Sting's ambiguity continues. His character development has been fantastic to watch. One of the bright spots of watching all the WCW events has been Sting's growth.*1/4Next, Roddy Piper comes out for a contract signing. He calls Hulk Hogan out, but gets Eric Bischoff instead. Bischoff says he'll be happy to sign it for Hogan if it meets his requirements. Piper mentions Vincent's past as Virgil by saying he taught Vincent how to fight. That was great. Piper tees off on Bischoff like only Piper can. Bischoff tells Piper to relax or he'll fine him. Piper asks how much the fine would be to knock Bischoff out. Piper says he'll fight Hogan at Starrcade. He says he's not signing anything until Hogan comes out. Hogan finally does come out with the rest of the nWo. Hogan says he's used to dealing with people who are equal to him. When Piper was Hogan's equal 10 years ago, he couldn't get the job done. Hogan reveals that Piper has a bad hip with a big scar on it. Piper snaps and goes after Hogan. Piper becomes out numbered, allowing Hogan to nail Piper's bad hip with a chair. Hogan does some more damage to the hip and spray paints nWo on the leg of Piper's before spitting on him. Piper wills himself up and says if that's the best Hogan can do, he's in trouble at Starrcade.Thoughts: This was a really intense segment. You can just feel the hatred between Piper and Hogan. Piper is so good at what he does that you were in his corner all the way. The Amazing French Canadians (Jacques Rougeau & Carl Ouellet) (W/Col. Parker) Vs Harlem Heat (W/Sister Sherri)if Harlem Heat wins, Sherri gets 5 minutes alone with Parker. Harlem Heat wins. Sherri ends up kicking the crap out of Parker after the match, much to my delight. The match was below average, but it featured one big spot from the French Canadians. I won't spoil it, but it's pretty cool. Seeing Sherri kick Parker's ass was fun as well.*3/4Cruiserweight ChampionshipDean Malenko (C) Vs PsychosisMalenko retains. This match is hampered by a very slow start. It's a shame because it really picked up after a while to become exciting. Unfortunately, it was too little, too late. It's a good match that could have been a lot better if not for the slow start.***1/4Tag Team Championship (Triangle Match)The Outsiders (C) Vs Meng & The Barbarian Vs The Nasty BoysThe Outsiders retain when Nash nails Knobbs with the jackknife. This was a LONG match that bored me to tears. Most of it consists of nothing but punching and kicking. There is one cool moment where The Outsiders face off, but even that turned out lame.*60 Man Battle RoyalThe winner gets a shot at Hulk Hogan. It comes down to the nWo (Nash, Hall, Syxx & The Giant) vs Lex Luger. Luger manages to eliminate them all except The Giant. The Giant wins. This was really boring and hard to follow until the end. Luger vs the nWo was fun, but that's about it. The winner is very deflating as well. Not rated.Despite Bobby Heenan calling it the greatest PPV he's ever seen, that is the farthest thing from the truth. It is barely above average. Mysterio Vs The Ultimo Dragon is a fantastic match, but everything else is ho-hum for the most part. 5.5/10
amanwhorocks 1. Rey Mysterio Jr. Vs. Ultimo Dragon - Swinging action, not so much high-fly like usually, but there were nice moves! 9/10 2. One Arm Behind my Back Match: Nick Patrick Vs. Chris Jericho - I don't like these "funny" matches with non-wrestlers, but they both did what they could... 6/10 3. Jeff Jarrett Vs. Giant - Match between those on Halloween Havoc was ugly, so why we can't repeat it. Sting help Giant to win. 6/10 4. The Amazing French Canadians Vs. Harlem Heat - The very end and splash from 2 chairs on turnbuckle was good, rest of, urm. 6.5/10 5. WCW Cruiserweight Title Match: Psychosis Vs. Champ-Dean Malenko - I like both and Psicosis is my all time favorite, but that natch was strange, slow beginning, not much high fly action, some mistakes and holding again and again. Malenko retains. 7/10 6. Triangle WCW Tag Team Championship: Champs-The Outsiders Vs. Nasty Boys Vs. Faces of Fear - Nothing special, Outsiders won. 6/10 7. World War 3 Battle Royal - The winner is Giant. 8/10
